I had a photo drought there for awhile. Until Ted gets fired up to put a few things on his bench. It seems the 1911 never goes out of style. Those who are not fans of the JMB design love more to complain or condemn it than to shoot their high speed polymer perfection with the lasers, and gps.

Even more interesting we are seeing a few more .38 Supers come through the shop for full house builds....like these for instance. Personally I have not spent a ton of time shooting the trente ocho's. However, from what I understand from knowledgeable shooters they are quite the setup. For carry these lightweight jobs could sit in a few holsters that I can think of.

I believe these are making the trip to the Shot Show with us this year. Hopefully all of the smiths here at LTW will bring a few. It keeps everyone honest. These should probably be riding in an Alessi or Bulman exotic skin rig. Shark, elephant ear, or maybe something we havent' seen. Now for some shots.

That is a stunning pair of pistols that takes me back to the beginning of my 1911 experience. The combination of old Colt rollmarks, sublime bluing, smooth ivory grips, and pure craftsmanship just blows me away.

I so want to see the holsters and belts that will carry these pistols.

Excellent work. Clean and, as awlays, superior photography.

You guys are making me think that I might need a 38 super in my future as a carry alternative.

!Estos es MUY BUENO! The classic roll marks really set these off!

Any hints on what other projects might be in the works for SHOT?

My good friend, Mr. Shear, is absolutely eloquent! And I'll take one of those drool cups as well!

I owe my current interest in the Super to Al. I am nw carrying and shooting a Colt XSE LW commander, but, of course it doesn't come anywhere close to these two, or the one that Al has coming from Tim.

But there might be a full house build on a Caspian frame and slide somewhere down the road. :D

Thanks for the treat of seeing these, Steve, but I'll have to diverge on the choice of rigs. I think they belong in floral carved Tom Threeperson's. :D

Those are wonderful.
I bet they carry nice, and I'm sure they shoot. They just about beg to be carried together, one on each hip, don't they?

What does a Ltwt Cmdr weigh? Around 26-28 ounces?
I wonder how the weight compares between a steel-frame 5" 1911 and two spare mags in a pouch, and two loaded LWCs.
Now you got me thinking.

Let's see...
A 1911 loaded with 230 grain ammo weighs around 45 ounces.
Two loaded mags in a pouch would be around 19-20 ounces.
That makes a total of 64-65 ounces for a gun, mags, pouch, and 22-25 rounds.

Two 38 Super LWCs would weigh around 54 ounces (guess).
Their loaded mags would be about 12 ounces for the pair.
That's a total of 66 ounces for two guns, and their mags, and the 20 rounds of ammo they contain.
A couple of ounces more, and 2-5 rounds less. But no reloading, and you always have a backup gun.

I see the logic, but doubt I'll switch anytime soon.

I always wanted a 38 Super in a 5" 1911. Too many Skeeter Skelton stories read in my youth I guess. He was always telling how popular they were on the US-Mexican border, and in Mexico.

Glad to hear you are seeing more in the shop. Maybe there is a surge in interest in the Super, and the gun companies will make them more available.

Carved leather? Are there any current holster makers out there making carry holsters in carved leather? You are right that would look stunning. Reminds me of some of the TV cowboys and the border lawmen from a long tme ago.

Beautiful work! Hmmmm. In checking the safe, I don't seem to have any 38 Supers yet... In checking the wallet, I don't seem to have any money now either. Such is life.

Steve-

El Paso Saddlery comes to mind, but I'm sure there are others.

A lightweight commander just makes sense in .38 super.
Those two are superb!

Nice 38 Supers you have there. I believe Kirpatrick Leather in Texas also does Carved leather gear. Quite a few of the Texas Rangers I work with use his products or those made by TDC Inmates. You might take a look at the site below for inmate made leather gear. Their stuff is pretty good quality and the price is reasonable.

Those truly are works of art! The owner of these will be thrilled. However those teeny tiny muzzles on a 1911look so odd to me.

Our resident mexican policia corrected me on the spelling of Trente, apparently it is "Treinta". For those of you that were totally thrown off I apologize. :? Certainly did not mean to offend. I was concentrating on my gun building. :P Was that spelled correctly? :P
