I bought this back towards the end of last year and really enjoyed it as it came from the factory. Then a couple of things happened that made me want to send it off for a little work. 1st off I won the OACP that Ray Harms built that was raffled off on PCT and then my Department started talking about authorizing 1911's for duty. Well I sat down and considered buying any number of factory 1911's for that role and then decided what the heck, I'll fix up the GI. I went with Don after seeing a few of his pistols here and hearing the positive comments people had to say about his work. I was also fortunate in being able to actually shoot one of his pistols prior to sending mine in. Anyway away the GI45 went a few months ago. It was returned this past Friday and I am extremely pleased with it. I had the following done to it.

1. Basic street package to include Heinie sights.
2. Extended safety installed.
3. Lower and Flare ejection port
4. Stipple front strap.
5. Dehorn.
6. Wilson beavertail installed.
7. Replace the ILS mainspring with flat serrated MS.
8. YoBo Hammer/Sear/Disconnector set installed.

To say I am pleased with the results would be misleading. I am extremely happy with the results. I hope to put a few rounds through it tomorrow and qualify with it next week. Now to save some money for a more retro 1* package on a Blued Colt from YoBo.

To say that Don does nice work would be a serious understatement. His work is consistantly beautiful.

I'm (more or less) patiently awaiting a pair of Colts that he's massaging for me. 8)

Very nice work! It looks like it should fulfill the need.

Yes it is, Don did a wonderful job on it. His stippling was one of the main reasons I picked him to do the work.

Don's stippling the front and back of the Commander that he's building for me. I can't wait to give it a try. I don't have anything with stippling yet.

Congratulations! I have a couple that Don has reworked for me. A hard chromed S70 that he did has now been passed along to my son and I am currently shooting and carrying a parkerized S80. His stippling is excellent.

Enjoy!

Beautiful! Any chance of getting a better shot of that front strap?

Don does a real nice stippling job plus his other work. Stippling is a real art and cannot be done with a center punch. If anyone is interested in the right way let me know. I have taught smiths to stipple for the better part of 50 years. Austin

Don does great revolver work too.

I'll try and get some pictures of the front strap for you, though I am a poor excuse for a photographer. I also hope to put some rounds down range tomorrow with it.

Well yesterday I stopped by my Deptartments range and put 500 rounds of Winchester 230gr SXT through the pistol. It ran perfectly without a problem. I believe the two things that stuck out the most during the shooting was the clean break of the trigger and the stippling. The sights were a great improvement over the factory sights also. Anyway Don Williams is one of the good guys in my opinion, thanks for a job well done Don.
