Hey all,
I'm thinking of getting either a Colt 70, 80 or a SA WWII (I know I know...talk about extremes) and having a really simple, non fancy, inexpensive (relatively) pistol built up. I've recently seen pic here ...

...of a "beater" 1911, that for some reason "connects" with me. Anyway, have any of you used the King's Target rear sight and liked it? What is the sight picture like? It sure looks solid. How does the YoBo retro sight compare?

Thanks
Rich

That old King's "target" rear sight has been around for a long time. Also was sold through Wilson Combat as the deluxe hi visibility sight in their old 80s catalogs. I had one of those on my Colt series 80 for about 10 years until I broke down and spent some money to have a Novak installed. The King's sight picture closely resembled a Bomar sight picture, pretty clean and usable. But those sharp corners will do a number on your hand during malfunction clearances. Stick with the modern day Yo-Bo Retro rear sight, it's probably more user (hand) friendly and give decent sight picture.

I like the Kings rear sight, but it has some draw backs compared to the Yo-Bo. The King rear is smooth and under harsh lighting conditions gives off glare from the rear blade. The rear notch is smaller than the Yo-Bo and for me is slower to pick up. The Yo-Bos are serrated to break up any light reflections and are nicely dehorned. The notch is wide and deep, affording fast sight acquistion and it is made out of high quality CNC machined tool steel. I guess you can surmise I think the Yo Bo is a superior sight. Ops, I was thinking of the Kings Hardball rear, I never used the Target rear.

Millett makes a rear that is very similar to the King's but is more rounded and dehorned. The face of the blade is also serrated.

Hey, it's a 1911 and it has character. It doesn't have to be a $3,500 custom job to be appreciated for what it is.
