I hope to hang on to it long enough to bring it to the SHOT show.

Beautiful! Could I ask what type of pattern is that on the front strap? Very nicely done.

Thanks for sharing

That is one bad a$$ blaster, I like the finish and the front strap treatment, hell I like the whole gun. The french border looks real nice and I like the slide stop cut back and recieded into the frame. Good looking gun Mr. Rogers

Can you give us some details on the build.

The finish really highlights the way that the pistol has been "softened". A beautiful marriage between the traditional 1911 lines, and an artists rendition of "operator friendly" dehorning. So many have tried to get it right in the past, and failed. Excellent work Chuck!

Very nice.

I'm trying to wrangle my February Vegas run to coincide with SHOT this year. Maybe I'll get to see it in person. :)

Physiology is a funny thing. Pavlov used to make dogs salivate by ringing a bell even though the food was not coming.

When I look on this gun, I get the same reaction as Pavlov's dogs - a lot of salivation even though the gun is going somewhere else :D

I save gas and vacation money, don't have to drive to museums!

I can just wait and see the next work of art posted here!

Well done! 8)

Chuck, that gun is perfectly executed. As anyone would expect your machine work is unbelievable. Can't wait to see this one.

Beautiful work, not a single visible flaw. Very nice finishing-blending of the frontstrap treatment at the bottom, too.

OutSTANDING buddy! Image Image

You've got a lot of time wrapped up in that one, Chuck. Very nice smoothing. Very.

That's a good idea, too. Go ahead and bring it to SHOT. Then turn your back on it for a moment while I'm around and just see who it goes home with.........

Very nice! Just yesterday I was just looking at pictures I had copied of the last Gray Gun posted here.
Neat.
I like the golfball treatment the more I see it.

Good to see you removed the Springfield rollmarks. That's something that should happen more often, IMO.

Excellent job! Is that a phosphate finish?

Mr. Rogers, Is this gun already sold? Or will it be sold after SHOT?

Stunning work as always, Chuck. I'm glad you finally got this one done. For those who might not be aware, you don't see a lot of the work of the better smiths for sale very often. Two reasons for this are that we're always more concerned with the customer's guns than our own (as it should be), and once those customers wait through whatever time it takes to finally reach the top of the list, they're not typically inclined to let go of their new custom gun.

In order to actually get an "extra" gun done, we generally have to put in some late hours, work a few Sundays, and give up something that's precious - time with our families, or just time away from the shop. A gun like this one represents not only the labor of love necessary to create it, but the sacrifices made so a little something extra can be done.

Kudos, Chuck. Someone's going to be a happy camper indeed!

how hard or exspensive is it to remove the slide markings?

Not that I am quoting Chuck's prices but I would imagine about $50 or so a side to surface grind it. Keep in mind that even though only one side may have a rollmark you should do both sides to keep metal removal even. It could also be done with either a large end mill or a fly cutter but the final surface wouldn't be as nice as surface grinding and would entail additional work to achieve a desirable metal finish.

Springfield GI slide markings are DEEP. Better to buy a Caspian slide.

JR I love your Sig line. It seems that a lot of the old standards are forgotten. It is refreshing to see something that reminds you of how it "should" be...

Us old cops have to teach you young whipper-snappers something every now and then. This example of Chuck's craftsmanship is one of many magnificent pistols posted here and why you should check in here everyday. Get's your heart pumping, at least it does for us old people.

And one of these days I'll teach you how to drink coffee. :D

Since I have to ask, I can't afford it... but I have to know. What will that command?

And I do mean command - that thing is actually making what little money I have point west...

Hello Chuck... are you there? (I wonder if the SHOT show is going on right now...) That's just one of the most perfect looking 1911's I've ever seen. Magnificent. Stunning, actually.

May I ask what finish you have on the gun?

I've always felt that Springfield's rollmarks, especially on the left side, were really crude looking and unappealing... the removal thereof has made a wonderful change in that regard, as well.
