It isn't often you see any of the top smiths build a gun for themselves. If they do shoot it is generally a simple gun done well and runs like hell. Well not to different at our shop, this one is simply elegant. At first you would think stainless..........Ted did satin polished flats with hardchrome on this one. The black micarta grips are available through Yost-Bonitz Custom and they are outstanding especially on a stainless or hardchrome gun. Ted says he is keepin' this one. We'll see.

Some pics.

Barrel crown and some nice work on the reverse plug.

Serrated frontstrap.

This gets the blood flowing for the Delta afficianados. The satin finish with hardchrome is unreal.
Image

Some of the finer detail on Ted's personal gun.
Image

A shot of the flat topped slide with a gold inlay front sight, and a fluted barrel which is obviously very kewl.
Image

A glimpse of the Heinie rear with a personal touch of Ted's.
Image

A beautiful 10mm in an appropriate holster by Lou Alessi.
Image

You would expect his gun to have one of his perfectly done lanyard loops right?
Image

The insides are as good as the outside.
Image

And last the black linen micarta grips which have become one of my favorites. 8)

Alot of pics I know but this one was fun to take photos of. More pics of some additional guns coming soon.

One of the less visible mods was converting the slide to series 70 configuration. I just can't stand to leave empty holes in a slide

Thanks, Steve - Nice photos as usual!

This is truly an awesome gun. Ted even fluted the bull barrel and custom made a standard (GI type) looking reverse recoil plug for this one.

Now all we need to do is get him out of the shop to shoot it and see if the old guy can still shoot.

Very freakin' nice, Ted! 8)

I really like what you did with the reverse plug. It 's one of those "gotta look twice before I know what I'm seein'" things.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, guys. I still have a little fun from time to time, and yes Ray, I think I can still manage to prop up that big heavy iron and point it downrange... Might even scare the crap out of a couple of targets

How did I fill that hole?? 20 years of hard won experience, some nifty set up and machine work (Ned & Chuck woulda been proud) and some more nifty work with a hand scraper, which resulted in no loss of blood. No magic - but Ray and Micah are doing the next one!

Ted, You know I love them 10MM's (and no, I don't have one), and this is a gorgeous example of my next favorite caliber in 1911's. :

I gotta tell ya guys, that thing really came out nice. I saw it in the "build up" stage, and watching Ted fix that series 80 hole in the slide was REALLY cool :D

The finished product is awesome...

Steve, your photography skills are really getting good!!!!! 8)

Nice job!

John,
I am spoiled being able to photograph these guns. I just recently got to handle LTW #2, you guys did an amazing job, that gun is unreal.

When you finish another of your fine shooters if you want to send if for some photos please feel free, I wouldn't mind spending some time doing it.

Take care,
Steve

Ted,

That is a beautiful gun. I know this post is old, but I go back and take a look every few weeks to be sure I didn't miss anything. Who's plug is that? I really like the bull barrel set-up with the "eared" plug filling the holes, but I can't figure out what you used. This gun is the reason I've been looking for a Delta slide for the last couple of months.

Have fun at the SHOT show.

What kind of spring plug is that, Ted? I'm trying to find one... and an STI long composite trigger.
