I’ve been thinking of having some stuff hard chromed. Starting with a Colt Gold Cup and moving on to other various gun parts and accessories. I’ve come across a couple places like Tripp Research Cobra Chrome and Accurate Plating and Weaponry. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with hard chrome parts or either of these two companies.

Thanks, Chris

I have never done buisness with accurate plating so I can' comment on their work but have worked with Tripp. Their work is first rate. There have been several recent threads in this forum about Virgil Tripp.

I have had work done by both AWP and Tripp. The prep work by AWP is far superior to that of Tripp. Roll marks were ruined by tripp and the brushed finish is not even in the same ball park between the two. Save your money and headache and go with AWP the first time.

I am sorry to here that you weren't happy with the work that Tripp did for you but in all the hundreds of posts I have read here and other places yours is the first negative one.

I also had a Kimber go to Tripp. Great work! That is after it made two trips to AWP. Don't know exactly what went on but my Smith was not satisifed with their work and sent it to Tripp. So, I think you can bad from anyone if they are human! It's what they do to correct any error that matters if something does happen.

Had Trip do a thunder ranch. Turned out beautifully.

My Les Baer Custom Carry has a frame and barrel that were hard chromed by Tripp, and they're gorgeously done (the slide is finished in Tripp's black Cobra Coat). The hastily-shot, handheld pictures do neither finish justice - both are flawless on the gun.
