I recently purchased the pistol in the attached link.

When I saw the auction I knew that this was someone's special pistol and not a typical pawn shop gun. I believe this may have been a gun worked on at Gunsite. Reasons: First it has an original Gunsite safety-not one of the mass market units, Second it has Yo-Bo retro sights on it, these are early ones with no serrations on the back sight, Third, the Colt Style front cocking serrations are flawlessly executed.

When I got the gun it was filthy, a good cleaning and it was off to the range. It shoots great, no issues with anything I fed it. The trigger despite still working with the 80' series parts breaks like glass at 4 lbs.

What's everyone think? I am almost certain that this is a "special" gun. Certainly not full house but not a run of the mill Colt either. In either case at $550 to my door, it was CHEAP!

Great find.

I had the pleasure of check out a Yost / Jeff Cooper Gunsite pistol ..... it was well used and had a bit of rust on it - but it was a great gun. Enjoy your gun.

It took me two hours of cleaning to get it up to par. The slide fit is kinda loose but it shoots great. It has the Gold Cup style flat top slide, it is matted. I don't know if that was a standard Combat Elite feature or if the matting was also added. Anyone know? Regardless I am very happy with it.

My guess is that ROBAR built that gun.
They probably have a record of it...give them a call

good catch

Anthony, why Robar? Is there some feature that makes you think it is their work? Not that I care who built it really, but I am trying to learn. Is there some piece of detail work that is a "signature"?

The time period of the gun and the clearly Gunsite type features led me that way.

I agree with Anthony, that is most certainly a Robar thumb safety and sight.

I called Robar and Tad there is going to look at the pics and see if he thinks it's one of theirs. They only keep records by owner name, not model or SN so I may never really know.

You are right, it sure looks alot like their work after going to their site and looking at things. One thing that was interesting was he said that they can't even get those thumb safeties anymore. Apparently the company lost the mould about 10 years ago! I know Brownells offers a similar unit now. Very interesting, will keep you posted. Thanks guys!!!!

The sights are ROBAR sights, not Gunsite sights, they have been using them for over 20 years.

The aggressively ramped front sight, matted slide, front cocking serrations, two tone AND the "New Detonics" thumb safety are all hallmarks of their work.

Yea, after looking at their site it is basically a Combat Master without the frontstrap stippling. It is pretty clearly their work in my mind. Would be great if I could get it documented. That's why I posted it here, I knew it was "special" but not really sure what I had and I knew if anyone would know, someone here would.

I may try and get some better pics and post them here.

Might be worth sending to them for a tune up. That fronstrap is crying out for some matting to match the slide.

My thoughts exactly!

I may have them tighten the fit a little and do the stippling on the frontstrap which is now standard with the package. Might have them Roguard the slide as well as it is showing some wear on the high spots, but then, it doesn't affect it's performance and I USE my guns! A little character, honest wear, never scared me away from a good pistol.

I have had two Robar guns over the last 15 years or so and the one in the link sure does fit the bill for one of theirs. Sight and thumb safety were their trade mark.
