Having now put a number of rounds through the Terry Tussey 1911 Navy Retro I acquired last month, I thought I would mention to those of you who do not already know it that Terry's guns shot as nicely as they look, which is to say superbly. One thing that this gun reminded me of was why the original 1911 design was modified by the Army as the 1911A1. Shooting most 1911s with the now-common Commander style hammers and beavertails, you forget that sloppy hold equals a bit of hammer bite on an original 1911. I found that out when this gun did not bite, but gently reminded the web between my thumb and index finger when I was shooting it. It also reminded me that the original sights were not ideal for target shooting or for quick target acquistion.
Ah, as they say, nostalgia isn't what it used to be. Wonderful gun, but not one I would want to carry as my primary source of protection, or take to a match. Still lots of fun for casual range use and a lot of fun to gaze on and fondle. Dave
