I am looking at buying a compact 1911 in 9mm for my wife. She has small hands and she likes my custom compact 1911 in 45 acp but it has to much recoil for her. Do you guys have any suggestions on which one to buy and are there any reliability problems with a compact 1911 in 9mm that I need to know about. thanks

My wife (5'2" a hair over 100pounds) has two choices she would offer: For 'home' the Springfield XD9 V10. Not actually a 1911, but the ported 9 has no recoil to speak of, and she finds it reliable and accurate. The 'carry' choice is the STI LS9. Small, very nicely built and we have had no reliability issues at all. Fits he hands well. If you buy an STI, get it from Bob Londrigan at Brazos Custom. Besides being a great race gun builder, he is an STI master dealer and tests and checks each STI before he ships it. Dave

dbltap, I don't think it's a real problem. I'm getting ready to build a matched set of CCO type 9MMs on stainless Caspian frames and slides, and if I had any doubts about reliability I'd have passed on the job.

Thanks for the input, I am not a fan of ported guns for defensive use though. My wife and yours are the same size so if it fits your wife, then is should fit mine. I will take a look at the STI, I used to shoot a SVI for IPSC use and it did well, since STI and SVI used to be a part of the same company I think there should be no problems. If I go with a springfield or Kimber and there is any problems, then I will send it your way Mr. Williams. Thanks again
