OK. I've always been a very loyal 1911 guy. Somehow, while sleeping I was bitten by the Hi-Power bug. I now own one, and have another being built.

Many of you have seen this P-35 before, as it's picture has been on this forum. It was also in the LTW booth at SHOT 2006. I 'claimed my prize' there by drooling all over it. Some of you will get to see it again as it's going to be featured in an upcoming Harris Publications issue.

Here's my first Hi-Power. I'm hooked. What next?

Thanks Ted! I'm glad its finally found a good home.

Nothing "wrong" with a Hi Power, particularly to a dedicated 1911 fan. The last product of JB (well, developed from his work, as it exists in the form where it emerged from Belguim in the pre-WWII days) I love switching from one of my 1911s at the range to one of my Novak-built HPs. A 'smaller' gun in you hand, it takes a mag or two to get into the swing of things after a few hundred rounds of 45 through a 5 or 6" 1911, but it soon becomes a blast.

You ask what's next? I am toying with the idea of having Wayne take a Hi Power Competition model I own and reworking that one (longer slide, etc.) Other than that, Hi Powers Forever! Dave

If that's your first hi-power, you're gonna WAY disappointed with any others that come after.

You should have started lower so that you could have greater appreciation for what you've got!

For comparison, you're like a 16-year old who just got his first car and it happens to be a Ferrari instead of starting with the old family station wagon.

To my line of thinking the P-35 goes hand in hand with the 1911. Sort of like brothers seperated by 24 years or so. The P-35 fits my hand better than any handgun I have ever held. With Spegel grips it feels like a natural extension of my arm. I just picked up a 40 S&W from CDNN and was very suprised how mildly it recoils for a gun of it's size. It is quite pleasant to shoot even with the hot stuff. Now if FN would stop shipping them from the factory with a 10 pound trigger they might sell a lot more.

I don't know how many times people have told me that they won't buy a Hi-Power because of the trigger. Usually the next thing out of their mouths is that you can't get a good action job done for one either.

Mark it would be an understatment to say that your P-35 is a very nice one. I wouldn't be suprised if a year or two from now you have 3 or 4 in your stable. For those that know they are every bit as addictive as the 1911. :D

First-
Nice looking gun. I'm getting one made up at Y-B right now that will be similar. I think we'll both be happy!

I agree. I see the 1911 and BHP as complimentary to each other. Sorta like "teammates".

I don't like switching carry guns often, or as instructor Louis Awerbuck says- "riding the firearms ferris wheel". But I admit to switching between the BHP/1911 as my needs or wants dictate.
It's an easy switch.
Both are SA. Their operating controls are in the same place, and work the same way. Although the grips feel different, the grip angle is similar. Sights can be installed that give identical sight pictures.

I was never much of a BHP fan, but they are starting to grow on me. I must admit that I don't know much about them.

Does the hammer bite you? It looks as if it would?

Absolutely no hammer bite! Ted does an excellent job of taking care of that.

You know, the scarriest part was that the moment my wife wrapped her hand around it (careful) she said "I like it. I REALLY like it."

I think she knows better than to take it from me. Right? Uh oh...

Thanks Josh. My family has been in the banking business continually for over 70 years now. Those props are some of the family heirlooms collected in that time.

In the pictures there is a subtle duo-tone effect between slide and frame, I like that! Is it due solely to the difference between the satin blue of the frame and the polishing of the slide flats?

Yup. It's just the way the light reflects off of the different surfaces. It's satin finish with polished slide flats.

Finally got this one to the range on Tuesday. It was a quick trip, and I didn't have time to put it on paper, but it's definately a great shooter! Shooting at the bottom end of empty pop cans at 15-20 yards (Hey, it was all I had time to grab) I could consistantly drill them (in the bottom) using a 'snap' sight picture.

The pistol feels great in the hand and is quick to get back on target. Ted's trigger reset reduction modification is wonderful. The trigger feels similar to a 1911s. I had no problem with reset, even when firing double taps. Which, by the way, is something of a joke when shooting at cans, but it was fun nevertheless.

Mark,
Very nice gun. I'm sure you will get many years of enjoyment out of it. If you decide to have Ted build you another BHP I would encourage you to consider his signature grade model with beavertail - it gives the gun a completely different "feel"; one very consistent with a 1911. I have shot Brownings off and on over the past 40 years and recently acquired a Yost signature grade BHP. I also recently was fortunate enough to take delivery of a signature grade LTW Commander from Ted. Last weekend my son and I took both to a local range and ran a couple hundred rounds through each - what a treat! I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the Browning since carrying one in southeast Asia back in the middle '60s. They kinda grow on you. While the .45 is my preferred carry gun, the Browning seems to like to tag along to range sessions and is occasionally found strapped to my hip for a day trip or two. They are both enjoyable to shoot and enjoy a consistent manual of arms to operate. Good luck with your new toy.

Thanks Keith! I too wear a 1911 under my belt on most days. I have Lou Alessi building me a PCH for the Hi-Power, and I think I'll carry it some.

It is soooooo nice to shoot, and very accurate. My wife is in love with it, and I'm glad to see her wanting to go shooting soont.
