Howdy folks. I have been lurking on this board for sometime now and I even know a few of you from AR15.com I spend a lot of time in the 1911 and Browning Pistol forums over there and due to the influence and reccommendation for a very good friend of mine and many of the folks there I finally decided to post over here.
I have owned an old MK III Hi Power for many years and after wearing the finish off and wearing out the original sear, I decided it was time for a make over.
A lot of that influence has come from a fellow shooter and friend who is also 1911 and Hi Power buff. Much of the inspiration has come from many of the artists on this board. I worked very hard to make this gun as clean and crisp as possible. I only wish I had a better camera and more time to take professional grade pics.
Without further ado:
The pistol pictured is a 1993 production MKIII from Browning.
Externally I have done very little to the piece except shaving and bobbing the back of the hammer and the spur. I also fitted and tuned the Cylinder and Slide safety.
The OD Dura Coat is over parkerizing ( Manganese Phosphate ) and was done by AZEX Arms in Mesa Arizona. I did do the bead and sand work.
Sights are Novak MK II Tritium and were done by the GREAT folks at Novak's.
Internally she sports a Cylinder and Slide sear, new Wolff recoil and firing pin springs and a much stiffer safety detent spring. Fitting the sear has been a labor of love and I am not quite sure I have it "perfect" yet. I have the trigger down to about 6 pounds after some late night work the other evening and I am going to let it shoot in for a while. Of course, the Magazine Disconnect has gone gone for some time. The feed ramp is mirror polished and the gun runs like a charm.
Much of the influence for this gun is from many of the foks here, as I have said. I really love a lot of the simple, purist and working guns and have based a lot of this work on those values: simplicity, reliability and grace. Thanks for the great ideas, everyone.
