Disclaimer - this is not a custom pistol, however....

Scot Semmens asked me to send him a couple of pictures of the new Yost Bonitz Professional Grade sights that I had installed recently on two of my Les Baers. I don't have his email address, and I'm headed out of town for four days, so I'll just post a few pictures here. This one's my Concept X, an alloy-framed Commander-length gun that gets carried a lot.

After seeing so much of Steve Bailey's photographic artistry on this site, I'm almost embarassed to post these hasty shots, taken with flash on my bench in the garage tonight after returning from a round of practice at the range, before the gun was even clean.

Ignore the poor quality of my quick photos, and believe me when I tell you that these are the best sights I've ever had on a pistol. I've had the standard Baer faux Novaks, real Novaks, both original and Slant Pro Heinies, and these I like the best. The white outlines are quick to pick up (when you get to be my age, you'll particularly appreciate that), the wider rear notch is a Godsend, and the ability to run the gun one-handed by hooking the rear sight on my belt, holster or heel is another major functional plus.

Last year in a class at Southern Exposure, I saw a gentleman with a modified Heinie rear sight (forgive me for not recalling whether it was Chuck Rogers or Bob Rodgers who did them on a gorgeous pistol) that you can do the same thing with, and while they are beautiful and equally functional, I happen to like the blocky, substantial nature of the YoBo sights. Besides, Bob's wait list is closed until after the first of the year!

My Baer SRP will be headed to Tempe soon for the same treatment - these are great sights, and I'll get some better quality images up here soon.

Jason -

Can those sights be made to fit an ADJUSTABLE Novak cut? I am really interested in giving one a try, but I made the unfortunate mistake of ordering an adjustable Novak rear sight on my gun (just don't care for it).

Buck -

What are those grips made out of? They look really sharp!

John

John, They're made of wood  HAHAHA!!
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
They look like Cocobolo, but they might be quarter sawn from the looks of the grain.

John - the maker, Gary Atkin, says they wood is South African cocobolo. I got two sets from him last year, kept this one, gave the other as a Christmas gift to a friend.

My set developed a small crack on the left panel up near the plunger spring tube, and Gary immediately replaced the set. Good guy to do business with.

His email is: geatkinjr@lycos.com

Lou - "...they're made of wood" - that was VERY bad! :D
