Here are some pics of a Colt CCO that got a major facelift. Some of the features include:
Ball cuts, bottom bevel and High Power cuts to the slide
Heinie Slant-Pro rear sight
Yo-Bo ignition system with STI trigger
Wilson beavertail with Ed Brown thumb safety
High grip and 30 lpi checkering on front strap
Round butt, carry bevel and VZ grips
Finished in Black-T

Very nicely done, John! My idea of the perfect carry pistol.
Love the rounded grip bottom.
Did this begin life as a Gunsite CCO or the standard Colt CCO??
I've heard that hideous rear sight on the standard CCO can make it difficult to adapt any other type of rear sight to?

That's beautiful. I usually like standard size 1911s, but that one just went on my list of favorites that I've seen here.
I like it all, but the HiPower cuts, the grip bottom, and the basic black finish are especially nice.

Great work John! I bet the new owner is going to be very happy. Never been a fan of HiPower cuts, but this one is changing my mind.

Thanks, Guys. This was a standard Colt CCO from (I think) the late '80's or early '90's, not the Gunsite version. I got lucky with the site as Richard Heinie let me buy one that he had left over. His rear sight sure makes a big improvement over the original one, doesn't it?

John,
Looks great! I have never really liked the looks of the smaller guns but that one looks awesome.

Also, e-mail replied.

I love it!! How'd you get the beavertail to fit so perfectly?? Is that a steel framed CCO that you were able to weld up?? I have a aluminum framed one and am toying with the idea of living with the gap and having a Wilson installed just to get rid of that damned humped safety....I can't get used to it. I wish Colt would have put a decent beavertail or a standard grip safety on it in the first place and left it to the masters to do the installation.

Thanks, John. It's a 7075 aluminum frame. I had the frame tangs welded on a "no guarantee, experimental" basis, then fit a Wilson beavertail to it. I don't know whether my welder wants to do anymore or not.

John,
Once again a beautiful job. I really like the look of the rounded butt and the Hi-Power cuts. Makes it all the harder to wait my turn.

John,

REALLY beautiful work! I've seen the Hi-Power style slide cuts offered by several smiths but have never actually seen it done on anything other than a government model. Looks really great on the shorter CCO slide. Makes me think about building up a commander sized 1911  .

Fantastic work, as usual, John. Here's a CCO that Theo Yost worked his magic on a couple of years ago. Best regards, SRT

Another beauthiful CCO!!! I need one from each of the Masters now. The CCO is just screaming for Colt to bring it back out as a regular item sans the stupid grip safety and with the standard vertical slide grasping groves and grip tangs. If we could get Colt to get them CA legal, I would buy the first half-dozen. Please Colt, listen to your customer base. a 1991A1 Colt CCO would be DA BOMB!!!

Hey John,

Just find yourself a tame LEO that owns a CCO or Baer Stinger and do a PPT.
As that LA Dodger guy says on that stupid radio commercial: "That's how I got mine" :)

Mr. Harrison, what front sight did you use on this gun?

It's the factory Colt sight.

Did you have a tritium or some type of bead put in the front sight? or is that the way it comes. The reason I ask is I have Heinie Slant Pros on my Colt series 70 right now and am thinking about going to a front sight with a dot. My eyes at times are having a hard time picking up my EGW black front post. Thanks in advance.

It is a white dot, not a tritium lamp. You should give it a try. I'm starting to like a white dot in the front sight to help find it against dark backgrounds. Earlier this year I did a painted bar-dot on a Springfield at a customer's request and it really stood out without getting confusing to the eye like a three dot pattern does. Good Luck!

John, Terrific work (as always). I have a strong feeling that your retirement won't be much of a retirement. You're going to be a busy, busy man.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only person that has fallen in love with the CCO concept, although I prefer all steel. My Novak is my daily carry and I just got all the pieces for another one, including a slide with the Heinie's. I just haven't decided who I'll get to do the work.
