I was asked to post these photos for Chip Brezee aka: Witherspoon. This gun is stock like a NASCAR race car is stock. Don and Witherspoon can provide the build details but this one looks very nice.

Thanks Steve-

This one was at Don's during the same time frame that the Springfield was with Y - B. I wanted a stock looking, yet totally reliable Colt for carry/duty purposes and my 1911- fan, HS senior son wanted a "black 1911" as part of his inheritance (which, hopefully is still some years away :)). I think Don did a masterful job on all fronts.

I basically told Don (and if you've never dealt with him, he is a gentleman as welll as a great pistolsmith) what I wanted this pistol to be and do and he filled in the rest:

1-Colt Basic Street Package (substituting the XS sights)
2-Beveled mag well
3-Stippled front strap (Don's execution, as you can see, is impecable)
4-Reshaped the grip safety tang and bobbed the hammer for comfort
5-Tool steel extractor
6-Black parkerizing
7-Navidrex black micarta grips with silver Colt medalions

I switched to the XS sights because I wanted a stock profile and I've found my aging eyes see the dot over the line in the "vee" notch very well. This set-up and the gold line insert front/Novak rear sight from Ted both work for me.

I asked Don about durable black grips with the medalions and he suggested the micarta. He installed the medalions for me.

That's about it. I wished I had an extensive range report but due to work and some funky weather I've only had time to have a little fun shooting some steel plates. It functions flawlessly and the plates keep falling!

This is my second 1911 from Don along with a S&W m37. I am completely satisfied with his craftsmanship, price, timeliness and customer service. He's a "keeper". Thanks Don.

Pictures and a story, that's what gives this site character. What a great simple "keeper"!

I'm not surprised. Don's done a fair bit of work for me and always does a beautiful job. I hadn't seen any examples of his stippling before this... makes me glad that I ordered that little feature on the Commander he's building for me. :)

Banker-

I had never seen an example up close and personal either, just heard numerous folks rave about it, more than once referring to him as a "master". I thought I would try it on this pistol, I am I glad I did. It is excellent, both in appearance and function. I have pistols with naked, checkered 30LPI, serrated and stairstep taped front straps. This treatment may be the best for me. I think you will like it.

I would certainly agree about using the term 'Master' to describe Don's talents, 'Course I'd also use the term 'friend'. He's a hell of a hand with a pistol!
