A couple of years ago or so I met professional knifemaker Jim Burke. In fact I was so impressed with his work I asked him to build me a knife. It is easily the biggest and sturdiest folder I have ever seen.

Not long after he asked me if I would clean up a Springfield 1911 for him that I believe his father had given to him. Well that is easy...I said sure. Jim being a cop and knifemaker had some pretty clear ideas of what he wanted and allowed me to add some things as well. The rear of the frame had to be welded up and recut in order to install the new beavertail. I serrated the front strap, slide top and rear of the slide. Then I refit a bushing, cut the slide for sights, and installed a new trigger and YoBo action components. Then the mag well was blended in and fit to the frame. This one has a 3.75 lb. trigger and hopefully something Jim will use for years to come. It was a pleasure working on this gun for him. If you don't know him he is a class act and I feel fortunate to call him a friend. Plus he is bigger than me and from the south, they sound like gentlemen but he would eat your liver if he had to.

The stocks are some I put on for the pictures, I think Jim is putting some different grips on the gun when it gets home which won't be long. I had to take these pictures quick since I am on my way out the door to Northern Arizona. The patch is from a friend of mine who is on the Niagra Regional SWAT team.

Have a great weekend!!!

My thoughts exactly. Many times, less is much, much more.

Bailey is getting as good at the bench as he already is behind the lens, which is pretty awesome! 8)

Nice build Steve. You think Jim will just eat it as is or pour milk on it first?
