Just wanted to fill you folks in on the Colt Series '70 .45 that I had John Harrison work his magic on.
Mr. Harrison called me on Thursday to let me know my Colt was ready for pick-up and because I live only a short drive from John I stopped by his place on Saturday to take possession of my new favorite pistol!
The options I chose were mainly standard fare (Kart barrel, EGW bushing, trigger job with new internals and a Greider trigger, Heinie sights, CMC grip safety, Ed Brown thumb safety and some metal work, serrated frontstrap, dehorning etc.). The only oddity is I chose to go with a 3-hole trigger but I just prefer that look. That's one of the benefits of a custom job I guess! The finish is matte IonicBond DLC (which looks fantastic by the way). The grips are Colt after-markets that I've had for a while.
Let me also say that Mr. Harrison is a true Southern gentleman and I want to thank him again for having me over to pick up the pistol in person. It's tremendous having such an outstanding pistolsmith 'in the neighborhood' so to speak.
My brother and I took the Colt to the range today and gave it a nice workout and no surprise to me it shoots even better than it looks. 100% reliable with several different loads including hollowpoints.
Overall I'd have to say the pistol is even better than I had expected and given Mr. Harrison's sterling reputation I expected a great deal. As I type this, my brother is filling out a work order at the Harrison Design site for a similar 1911!
These are the pictures Mr. Harrison e-mailed with the invoice (I'm sure they're better than anything I could take):
