This little fella has been lovingly called “The Munchkin Blaster”, a moniker given by one of my loyal clients. It came here from John Harrison’s shop after a beavertail weld-up, and then spent a few months in the safe waiting its turn. The pistol’s owner told me to essentially do what I wanted to, use the best parts available, and make it just a bit different from the other pieces in his impressive collection. Lastly, it has to measure up to his high standards and discerning eye. Hopefully it will. Without further ado, here's a few pics:

Yes please!!

That is a nice looking setup in every shot, every angle, and every aspect. I really love the contrast with the Nitre Blueing on the pins and screws. We've seen that concept before, but they really stand out nicely.

If I ever decide to have another smith build me a blaster, I think I've found him.

Bravo!

I"m confused. Are there two sets of pins and screws? One stainless and one Nitre blued?

Love the gun. Makes me want to get my Micro worked on.

Very nice, all the way around. But you sure have to love the view from the business end!

Awww....It's so CUTE...

Very nice Micro. I guess it probably functions quite reliably now as well! :D

That is one outstanding Springer!!! Everything looks great and I'm sure the customer will agree. The treatment of the slide stop is really cool.

Very nice Dave. I need to figure out a way to get a frame to you while I'm over here in Baghdad for that project we swapped emails on a few months back. Figure a 5" version of what you've got here and I'd be a happy man.

Zoiks that's nice! That is some top-end work there.

Some details please. Are the grips an exact match for the knife? Looks pretty close. The chrome looks flawless, whodunnit?

Here's my experience with these guns-- no super-strong mag spring, no worky. These babies have a shorter stroke than an OACP (those I've worked on anyway). If the mag ain't fast enough, it's malf time. Not to say these guns are malf prone-- just that the window is smaller. Stay inside it and it'll work every time.

we definitely need more details. are those grips carbon fiber, or some sort of black wood?

Guys,
Thanks for the kind words and your comments. This gun was a lot of fun to work on - I was given a generous amount of liberty to do what I wanted. Some of it was imposed by Springfield and the generous melting they did on select edges, so I tried to play nice with that. The internals are from EGW, Heirloom Precison, Wilson, Nowlin, and Ed Brown. Tripp did the hardchrome on the reverse plug, the rest of the gun was bead blasted. The nitre blued pins and screws were done here. A tip of the hat to Ted and Jason for graciously sharing their insight with me regarding that process.

Ned - the grips were made from a slab of F-22 Raptor Carbon Fiber. The knife, the Enigma model from Trace Rinaldi, sports the same material for its scales. You're absolutely right about the "window" being small to get a new cartridge fed, and I don't see weak mag springs making these things any fun to shoot. The stainless frame and a big chunk o' rail on the front end made it a very manageable Lil' Pig.

All I can say is, some pilot's gonna be pretty miffed when he finds part of his fighter is missing....

Dave has once again outdone himself. Pretty rare grip material there. What he hasn't mentioned was the scars he now has from tracer rounds grazing him and the rip in his pants from the concertina wire while getting his hands on that stuff... I think I'm going to have Dave make me some grips from a swatch fabric from the Mona Lisa or perhaps marble from Da Vinci's David.
