He said the package returned from Walter Birdsong and ready for me to come by and pick it up.

I bought this used Colt Lightweight Commander from a guy on The Highroad.org. It was in decent shape but like all factory Colts, it was sharp and not very friendly to my hand. I put half a box through just to see if it ran, it ran all right, also took some skins off my hand. Satisfied with its functioning, I took it to John Harrison to let him defang it and made it ready for carry.

John did the following (from my memory, not from the work order form):

Dehorned entire pistol
Bevel magazine well
Trigger job (4.5 lb) with short solid trigger and new sear
Wilson beavertail
Brown thumb safety
Yo-Bo Retro rear sight
SDM front sight that John installed his own gold bead
Serrated flat MSH and round butted
Match bushing installed using original Colt barrel
Reliability package
King's round commander hammer
Black T finish by Birdsong

It will make a great carry gun. I'll shoot it tomorrow :)

Very nice.
I honestly admit: At first glance, I thought- pictures of a base gun?
No! Pictures of a very well done gun!
Just what is needed, and done well. I could use that one. And use it, and use it, and use it...

That's awesome RT! Let me know if you ever decide to sell it. It is somewhat similar to the Colt John is working on for me right now with the short trigger, gold bead and retro rear sight.

Not for sale Jimbo. It doesn't have an achyrail so you wouldn't like it anyway. :)

Very nice commander. I am soon to send a light weight commander
to John if I don't die of indecision first. Seeing your choice of options
is not helping either. The Black T looks great. Very smoooth.

Steve

Hey anything John makes is dead on and goes bang every time. I love your pistol. So now Ive got a super tack driver retro looking non carry pistola coming with a glass breaking trigger. Just wait till you shoot it..

I'm sure that you'll be pleased with your Harrison as much as I am with mine.

Is there a reason why they do not coat the trigger and the hammer? (I am guessing wear marks.) I personally am interested in the Black T process more for the rust inhibiting performance, so any rub marks is not of the greatest concern..

Per my request, I prefer the trigger and hammer to be "shiny".

I like that look too. I also prefer the barrel and bushing to have the stainless look.

Looks like Mr. Utilitarian, RT has a little "pimp" in him after all... :D

Leaving the parts in its original condition doesn't qualify as "pimping". Taking a part and shine it up to a mirrorlike finish would be "pimping".

I agree, the only thing I would do different is a stainless bushing. I like the black barrel but the hood will start to wear pretty quickly, though it does still look good when worn through.
