Hey guys. With prices of ammo shooting through the roof, I feel it's time to get a full size 9mm. I am between a 1911, High power, and Glock 17 for the platform. I love Glocks, but kinda want something a little more rare. High power would be awesome, but I just don't think I am ready to drop the money into the customization I need. So that brings me to a 1911. What's the best option for an out of the box 9mm. I am more than willing to drop some money into it to make it right, but not right away. BTW, this will probably be a range plinker as my business gun is a 1911 in 45ACP.

Can I get some opinions from you guys?

Thanks,
Dave

Also, Does anyone have an opinion on the CZ 75B Single Actions. I know they are regarded as an LBC gun, but it is almost everything I am looking for.

About that 9mm 1911. Is it out of the question to purchase a Springfield Mil Spec in 38 super and have a 9mm fitted?

TIA

Dave

Hey Dave,

I can't speak to the single action CZ-75B but I had a standard DA/SA gun and it is the best value for your money. Good tight fit, very accurate and reliable. And the best DA trigger from the factory going. You can't go wrong with one.

Dave, I have the CZ SA and it is a sweet gun. I might be selling it if you decide thats what you want. I have the Kadet 22 conversion as well. I also have a Kramer OWB holster with matching mag pouch, and a summer special IWB.

I am building a 5 inch Colt 1911 in 9mm for the wife as we speak.

The STI is one of the best bang for your buck in a 9mm 1911 for out of the box, but your still looking at 1000-1200.

What is the purpose for this gun to you ?

I have had a S-A Loaded in 9mm that was great, and currently have a 1988 production mil-spec.-type S-A that has had the 1* package done to it. For me, this is a range/training gun, and very useful as a new(er) shooter training piece. As a defensive gun, I would choose my G19 or one of my Novak BHP's.

Now, if you really want something exotic, look at the Sig 210's done by Yost or Novak. I have, but cost is almost prohibitive - and that's just for the base gun!

Yeah that's all I am looking for is a reliable range pistol. I already roll with a G19, I want something full size for the range though.

DaveG,
Only because you mentioned the Glock 17 in your post... I would urge you to check out/shoot the S&W M&P9, its a good pistol. I'm a big time 1911 45acp guy and my M&P9 has become one of my favorite pistols, I have let a buch of Glock-lovers shoot it and they are hooked as well. I got 800rds through mine before I cleaned it, never a malfunction.
I, like you, am planning on having a 9mm 1911 built.

I let Dave test drive my M&P 9mm in the Hackathorn class back in June, I don't think he was that impressed. He was shooting his CQB.

I don't think Ken was impressed with my less than skill with such a fine blaster.

I shot smooth one's and it was meh. I would have to run it in part of a class or something to make a for sure decision, but at first glance it was nothing special to me. I do however roll a SW M&P-15 and that gun is the heat!

Dave, what area are you from. I am in Casper Wyoming and have all of the guns you mentioned. You are more than welcome to hit the range with me and try out some of my stuff. I have 2 Novaks Hi Powers, one with beaver tail welded on and one with out. I have the CZ 75 SA, and a Colt 1911 in 9mm. If you can make it out here we can pick up about 1,000 rounds and hit the range so you can figure out which one you like the best. This is an open invitation and you are welcome any time.
