As I have stated before not all of us wear a load bearing vest and a drop leg holster to work everyday. In fact that would look a little odd at most of the offices any of us work in whether you are law enforcement, military, or a civilian computer specialist. Your boss nor the public is going to understand why in the hell you are rolling through life like a character from a movie.

So, what do most of us need? A concealable setup that allows us to function everyday in our environments, that is comfortable, concealable, and durable. I have worn blued guns, hard chrome, two tones, and stainless guns. As of late, stainless guns are quickly becoming a very solid idea for me. They are corrosion resistant, available, and can be made to look good. Hard chrome is also a great choice, but if a part needs replacing or some work done to it, you either have to replace the part or have the old one stripped if serious work is to be done.

The upside to stainless guns is the ability to clean them up after a year or so of hard use. Whether that use be range time, carry, or bouncing around from one bag or car seat to another. Any competent smith or hobbyist can usually clean stainless up with a bead blasting cabinet and some emery cloth. The pictured guns were built as carry guns with some nice extras. Good controls, checkered or serrated front straps, good sights, and solid components everywhere else...plus some additional machine work just to make them look good. Which is important, if you are trying to do the best work you can.

I have carried a stainless Colt Commander for several years now, and it has proven to be a very reliable and workable everyday gun. Jason Burton just finished up the stainless Colt Government Models that are pictured below. These guns wear maroon micarta stocks which is something JB and I came up with this year as a throw back idea to Charles Kelsey and the Devel conversions. Charlie made maroon micarta a popular item decades ago. John Van Zyck of VZ grips was all for the idea and put these together for us.

Also pictured is a new holster design from Lou Alessi, it is an OWB. Now, we talk to allot of people who ask us which OWB is preferred for concealed carry. Until now they have not been the preferred method if you don't want somebody to know you have a gun on. An IWB excels in that department. However, this OWB called the Professional Speed Scabbard is easily the best design we have seen to date. JB is going to do a full review on this holster in the near future. These guns coupled with the PSS is a great setup for those who are looking for an OWB holster.

Enjoy the pictures.

Nice work Jason! Definitely two well executed projects.

You know, for years I didn't want anything on my gun's frontstrap but checkering. Now, I almost like the serrations better. Nothing to grab at my cover garment, and it still provides an excellent grip foundation. Either way, you've obviously covered the bases quite well!

Congrats again!

I agree that SS guns seem to suit me better. They can be brought back to new condition easily and in my garage, no need to send them off. Of course I'm not sure they will ever replace a nicely blued 1911 with nice wood or ivory for looks.

There's something about that Burton fellow...he gets it.

I look at a lot of guns, as I'm sure you all do. I've seen the work of the best, the worst, and the in-betweens. So has Jason, maybe even to a greater degree as he actually archives photos of guns, and buys examples of guns built by the best smiths of our day for his own collection.

His eye is always critical. He looks at things already done, and wonders how could it be done better, and is he the guy who'll do it? In the shop, it's a lot like having a little kid around - no, not because he's only three feet tall, because he's always watching, learning, and plotting his overthrow of the old guard  If old age doesn't get us, Burton will.

The two guns shown represent Jason's, and only Jason's handwork. He does many things the hard way, because he believes (as I do) that you have to learn the old ways before you can truly appreciate the new ways and their benefits in time savings.

Those with an eye for detail and a recollection of short term history would do well to get a gun in line for this young man. Lists grow long rather quickly these days. The good news is Burton's still a pup - his eyes are still good, and he hasn't even begun to ruin his hands yet

A rare case of youth NOT being wasted on the young. Very nice work Mr. Burton.

Makes me damn glad I sent him two new series 70's several months ago! Only now I'm kicking myself for sending two blued Colts and not one blue and one stainless.

I'm not a huge stainless fan, but I think these two Colts finally won me over. They are some of the best looking stainless 1911's I have seen. Just take some time and really look at the pics. The attention to detail is incredible.

Jason,

Very, very, nice looking guns. You have come a long way in a short time, and there are some guys out there that ought to learn to do things the way you have learned to do them.

Oh yeah, did you "hard fit" the barrel. :D :D :D

I don't think anything will take the place of blued steel in my heart but admittedly stainless does have it's place, It's usually too pedestrian looking for me but these pieces elevate it to a new level.

And here I thought Mr burton was the night janitor

Seriously, great accomplishments to those who persevere. Jason is one who is at the top of my list of those most respected.

Great guns Jason, keep blazin' away!

I see a lot of attention to detail in those two pieces, and attention to detail is what true customs are all about.

You did good, Jason. Real good.

To all collectors out there - you're gonna want (at least) one of Jason's works. He's what I would call a rising star.....

SIMPLY MAGNIFICENT!!!!
A fine example of what can happen when a great teacher (Yost) works with a great student (Burton).

One of the best looking pieces ever posted to this forum, IMO.

I have looked at alot of guns here. Those are making me want to go home and count my pennies.....I mean dollars!!!! In Houston Texas where I live stainless comes in very handy. My sweat turns things to rust very quickly. My carry gun is stainless.
I have got to save up some money!!!! And I can't wait to call alessi about a holster!! I would love to see a better pic of the new holster! :D

Guys thanks so much for all the kind words... I sincerely appreciate them. :D

No doubt about it building nicely detailed guns, with all the appointments finished to a level that satisfies the builder, isn’t an easy task... and doing it day in and day out is even harder. But in the end when the gun is finished and the product proves itself on the range all of the effort and work quickly becomes a small price to pay for the knowledge learned and experience gained. And, what’s probably even more, is how much builds like this make me appreciate all of the hard work and accomplishments, the details and the perfection, that the others here have been doing for so long... that is truly something I aspire to.

Jason, PLEASE tell me your middle initial is not "M", that'd be just too much

Nice lookin' stuff there, lad.

I shot the Single Stack Classic with Jason last year and I can tell ya folks, he can shoot these things, too. 'Course I still say it was borderline cheating to go shooting with Rob Leatham several times before the match.......
