I know that this is a question that has been answered before, but my Google-fu is pretty lacking.

Is the 9mm 1911 framme different from the ones that were used in the .45 and .38 Supers? I seem to remember that it had to be beefed up to handle the 9mm.

Thanks and Happy Christmas, Hanukkah and Winter Soltice to y'all!

a 9mm doesnt have nearly the pressure that a 45 acp does. I think youre remembering something about a 10mm. Though I dont believe theres any difference in the metals used to build a 10mm frame and slide.

Actually, the 9mm is a higher pressure round than the .45 acp.

If you were really hot-loading the 9mm, (but why, when there are better rounds to do that with, like the .38 Super or 9x23), you might want a ramped barrel to give more case head support. That is really more of a comment on the 9mm case strength, rather than of the 1911 platform itself.

The only real dimensional dif between a bare 9mm frame and a .bare 45 frame would be in the feedramp. No other difs in strength, dimensionally or material/heat treat-wise.
