I just picked up this pistol today, and I am very impressed with it. The finish is perfect, as with all Black-T pistols I have every handled. The fit is tight and smooth, the matted front strap is grippy, and the trigger is great. I have never seen a 1911 from Weigand, but Im impressed. Anyone have any experience with him? Thanks. Enjoy the pics:

CFII,

Im drooling over that one. I really like the texturing in place of the checkering. Gorgeous gun...simply gorgeous!!!!

I never met Jack but by all accounts he's a great guy and smith.

I have got to know more about that interesting muzzle end. I guess that's a screw-in bushing, and the little hole is for a spanner?

EDIT: The bushing is normal, just takes a spanner wrench to remove it. The pistol came with a little custom made spanner wrench. The barrel is ever so flared on the end to hit the bushing.

I have had some work done by Jack over the years and I buy his parts. Last I knew, Jack wasn't building guns any more.

Bob.

PS That gun was built for a really short thumb. Must be a story there.

Weigand's guns ran and ran and shot and shot!

When he gave up 'smithing to build parts fulltime, a lot of competition shooters were very sad

Beautiful 1911!
When did Jack start doing Custom guns again?
Jack has done some revolvers in the past for me. He does a fantastic job!
A couple years ago I wanted to send him another gun to have work done on it. Jack said he was done with the custom business. He said he was doing his parts only (scope mounts, etc.) only.
I'll have to give him a call.

He isn't. I believe that is a used gun.

I'm sure this is a dumb question, but what is the black thing that is going across the grip?

Extension for the magazine catch button. The first I saw like that was on a Devel, but there could be others. Anyone know?
That is certainly the longest one I've seen.

CFII-
Thanks for sharing the pictures. That's all very interesting. I didn't know he ever did 1911s.

Sorry, CFII, didn't mean to go out of turn with the mag catch response!

Its an extended "devel" style magazine release. There is actually a normal one under there, the extended paddle is screwed onto it.

Weigand was best known for his "Tame the Beast" revolver packages but he was a terrific action shooter and build some of the best competition pistols out there. He also taught 1911's at the NRA schools I believe.

And to top it off, it matches my full house Novak S&W 915. Gotta love black-T guns.

They seem to get along well.
