Howdy, new member here. Have several 1911's and carry a Colt Combat Commander as my EDC. The same one I took over to Korea as a young Army Infantry officer back in the '70's.
I have an old (early '70's, if I recall right) Essex frame that I bought when I was in college, thinking that I'd someday build a gun from it. Well, it's still brand new, even though it's old, and I want to go ahead and do the deed.
Anyone know of any good 1911 builders/smiths in the Houston area who would be good for a project like this? I want it done right the first time. Not the most expensive gun, just one that will shoot where I point it and be very dependable.
I can't tell you how many bad "gunsmiths" I've encountered over the years. I could have a couple of new Kimbers for what I've spent on smiths who didn't do good work over the years. Thanks.
