It is always a pleasure to see someone in the prime of their profession. Doesn't really matter whether it is an athelete, a performer, or even a pistolsmith. I have had the pleasure of seeing work from all of the LTW smiths and have realized that they are truly in the prime of their careers doing their best work.

Good work is evident, great work sometimes is indicated by what you can't see, or the appearance of making difficult work look simple...if that makes sense. Bringing a custom gun together takes experience, a careful eye, and staying faithful to your style. Look at any of the guns you see here on the forum, you can tell a Rogers gun, or a Brian gun just by the way they are constructed.

Ted's guns are no different and it is a pleasure to learn from Ted and be able to look at his best work. Flawless function, aesthetics, and form is what we all strive for. Not everyone is cut out to do this. It is nerve racking building for others who trust you to build for them a gun they will keep forever, or at least that is the idea and one that they will carry for their protection.

Ted started thinking of this build which is for an incredible person who has had a tough couple of years and has rebounded nicely. Like I have said before it is always the best to build for someone who will appreciate the work and gives you a blank canvas to do what you do best. That is where Ted shines. This gun is a good example of some of Ted's best work.

This is a Colt 10mm with the traditional appointments you expect from Theo.
-Schuemann Ultimatch .40 (10mm) ramped bull barrel
-30lpi checkering front and back
-YoBo Professional Grade sights
-Gold line front sight
-Feathered flat topped and serrated slide top
-Serrated rear of slide
-Hand cut mag well
-VZ black paper micarta stocks with Delta inserts
-Recut slide stop
-Hand checkered mag release
-Perfect frame to slide fit
-Tasteful carry bevel
-Hardchrome frame under a beautifully polished black slide
-And all the other details you don't see.

This thing is the proverbial lazer gun. Stacks one round on top of the other if the shooter can provide the talent behind the trigger. In fact if I was going to have Ted build me a carry gun for work it would not look much different if at all from this gun.

Enjoy the snaps.

That is absolutely gorgeous! I want a 10mm so bad I can't stand it! It's a shame that the 10mm doesn't get the respect and the following that it deserves in the LE and defensive arena.

Ted,

That is one classy piece. Your work illustrates why less is more.

What's the finish on that "black" slide?

Exquisite! I have a soft place in my heart for 10mms. My late mentor Bob taught me some of the basics of customizing on an early Delta.

Sensational looking firearm! How does the recoil on a 10mm compare to a .45?

The recoil is a little sharper without the "roll" of a .45. A more or less squared off firing pin stop coupled with a 20lb. recoil spring retards the slide flying back creating a more controllable recoil. Either way they are still enjoyable to shoot.

I first saw this and said "ho-hum, another perfect 1911 from Ted Yost". But that's the point. They just keep coming, and every one at least as nice as the one before.
It makes me want to shriek "FABULOUS!" like a swishy waiter.

Steve, I understand the recoil spring weight, but am unsure how the squared off firing pin stop affects the recoil. If you've a chance, can you please explain. Thanks.

On a .45 ACP the bottom edge of the firing pin is slightly rounded making it easier to push back on the hammer because it is relieved a little. The squared off firing pin stop creates two square edges that makes it harder for the slide to come back making the it harder for the gun to recoil as hard as it could if the bottom of the FPS was rounded or relieved. A 23 lb. mainspring also makes it a bit tougher for the hammer to go back. All of this retards recoil.

I hope I explained it. Look at the rear of one of your 1911 where the FPS engages the hammer when the slide is coming back.

You know, I love to look at all of these beautiful guns, but when Ted does another 10mm I get all excited again. I'm a big 10mm fan and seeing all of the 10mm guns Ted builds put him even higher on my list.

Another awesome job.

Damn, I love 10MM's in a 1911. Another beautifully executed Yost gun.

I'm also a 10mm fan and have a DE that was customized by a local gunsmith. I used it to shoot single stack matches. I dealt with the recoil situation by downloading a 200gr. bullet to just make major power factor. Before I had the gun cut, I shot it a bit as a box stock DE with full power loads. That's a handful!

On another note, I saw a box stock DE at our local gun show this weekend labeled: "Hard to find Delta Elite.....$1,300. :( I bought mine in 1990 for $450.
