the crosshatch barrel hood has always appealed to me:

Anyone have pics to share showing how this holds up after the pistol sees a little use? Thanks in advance!

Ned would know, he does that. I'll know, once I've put a ton of ammo through my 9mm Nedster beauty.

It has never held up for me. There gets to be very tiny scratches that follow the direction of the slide accross the chamber area. It does not wipe out t he cross-hatch, but it does diminish. I would assume that eventually that will stop and I could cross-hatch again and hopefully it would stay.

It varies gun by gun-- some just drag on the barrel hood more than others. The really, truly best thing would probably be to paper it with fore-aft lines, but-- I just like the crosshatch better.

Interesting topic. The CCO I just bought has this cross hatching. My wife asked me why the barrel was all scratched up. I told her it was done intentionally. I assume to reduce glare. I also assume Ned did the cross hatching on mine since he had done some work to it previously. Mine seems to be holding up fine, but I don't know how many rounds have been cycled since Ned did the work.

My Compact has some 4000 rounds through it. The area of the barrel hood right next to the 1st radial lug, maybe 6-7 mm wide, is completely smooth now. The mid of the barrel hood has some narrow area of mild wear, and the rest looks OK.

This is a sample of 1, and I think I need more of Ned's pistols so I could research this matter and report to you guys with higher statistical power and precision. :)

Thanks for the replies.

I've always been curious if a fitted barrel showed less wear on the hood; guess there will always be a little bit.
