I'm planning on having a fitted beaver tail and possibly frontstrap serations put on a stainless Colt XSE Light Weight Commander. This nessesitates cutting into the frame which ruins the old finish. From what I understand it is hard to refinish aluminum. What I want is a finish that is durable, won't chip or wear off and has the color of silver or hard chrome to match the stainless slide. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks!

Steve

Ron Mahovsky of Mahovsky's Metalife will hardchrome aluminum frames. He first applies a nickel finish and then hardchrome over the nickel. He did a Sig 226 years ago for me and it held up very well. I've also had Ron do a number of steel guns over the years and have had no problems with his work. It's a very tough, durable, attractive finish. He's also a very good guy to deal with.

+1 on hard chrome. I had Accurate Plating do an officers model for me many years ago. The finish holds up well and I believe it is harder than the aluminum underneath.
