Well, I bought a DE for a project gun and it looks to be in very fine condition, but it has a few problems I would like to understand before placing it with a gunsmith to be customized. First off, it shoots low, and not terribly accurately. Of course the trigger is an abomination which could explain the poor groups but not the low shots.
Also it doesn't lock back after the last round.
I'm not really too concerned about these problems and hope that a custom barrel & bushing, plus a good set of sights will fix most of it, but wonder if this is typical.

Certainly not unusual (in any brand or caliber for that matter). Your guy will have no prob making these things go away.

Hey, my only 2 cents (unsolicited) is to use a professional gunsmith with experience working with 10mm pistols. Probably Ned (above), Yost or Dave Sams come to mind.

Appreciate the response. Problem is, I don't really have a "guy." Oh, I have gunsmiths and they are good general smiths and I could probably guide them though pretty much what I want , if I knew what to tell them. This would also assume I knew what I was talking about. :( , but as far as tuning a gun like the DE, fitting a fine barrel & bushing, and some of the finer machine work, I think I need the help of one of the fine smiths here. Take front strap checkering; no one in my town does it. Managing recoil on a 10MM is another mystery to them.
So I need to find someone who can do what needs doing to make a fine shooting and great looking gun.
I wonder, is there a treatise I could obtain that would serve as a what to do guide?

do a search on this forum. Use any you find here, Ted Y., Ned C., Bob M. and any of the others. All I'm sure will do an excellent job. So if your's has crossed eyes then nough said send it to a LTW smith.

You also might want to PM and do a search under Jim Keeney....Jim has more 10mm pistols than anybody I know, and almost all of them are customized. He has posted some very detailed pictures and write ups on this forum of these pistols. Many of his pistols have been worked by Dave Sams, who is the former armorer for the Army Marksmanship Unit. Also, both Jim and Dave are gentlemen of the highest calibre and will answer any questions you might have! Give them a shout, and best of luck!--John
