Could someone please post a few pictures of their 1911 finished in Birdsong Black T. (I am unsure if I should go with it or hard chrome.) I would also like to hear how it has held up after use. Is it like E-Treat? Thanks for the help.

I couldn't decide, and I like the 2 tone look, so I got both. Many of you might have already seen this before. Those who haven't, it's my personal .38 Super. Birdsong Black T upper on an Accurate Plating Hard Chrome lower. All internals are Tefloned as well.

Do a search on Bilby here.

One of my 1911's will come up and you will see it, it was recently done in Black T

Here's some rough photos of my Black T coated Novak Colt. Black T is a spray on finish and looks like it has parkerizing under it. It wears like any other spray on finish. It's nothing like E Treat which you can't scratch with a knife blade.

My gun has seen some holster use and shows some wear at the front of the slide, but generally, I think it is one of the better spray on finishes. It looks nice and has good lubricity.

Here's my well-used SA Pro. It has around 5000 rds through it, including several classes and many, many hundreds of draws from leather holsters. It's definitely got some holster wear, and has got a bit shinier, but it's held up surprisingly well considering it's basically a "spray 'n bake" finish.

I have Black T on several of my weapons and it has held up well. Walter Birdsong is a true gentleman and a pleasure to do business with. You will not be disatisified.

Anyone have any idea of what the turn around time is on a black T finish for a 1911?

Is Black Diamond similar to E-Treat?

I have seen several guns with our local law enforcement using E-Treat . It is amazing how well it seems to hold up with very little holster wear . I havent seen any other finish , with the exception of hard chrome , hold up with virtually no wear signs after such hard use .

I may be totally wrong, never talkedt to Walter, but have been told it is much more than just a regular "spray and bake"there must be something quite different if the milatary makes him be available almost at any time,i have heard it is more of some kind of chemical process. Please correct me if wrong, but that is what a buddy who talked to Walter for quite a while told me.Roumer, bull, dont know. But i think it is more.

I have a Colt Mustang Pocketlite that was worked over by Scott, McDougal & Associates when they were still around. It is finished in Black T according to the order sheet I have that came with it. I'll have to consult that order sheet when I get home tonight to see just how old the finish is, but it's worn in pretty nicely IMHO. This is one of those guns that just rides around in a holster all the time, and then sits in the safe in the holster, and get's shot a couple of times a year.

does anyone have more info on this "E-treat"?
who applies it?
cost? etc.

I found Tripp hard chrome to be the most durable, but not exactly the best choice on a concealed carry and the black-T wears over time, both look great when applied.

E Treat is applied by Evolution Gun Works. You can get more info about it and some pictures on their site. There is also a thread on this site with a Kimber treated with it.

The Melonite finish from Coal Creek Armory seems to be really good also.

EDIT:
