Well I'll have to first apologize for my crappy photoskills. Camera isn't exactly the latest and greatest either but I can't blame it entirely. Now onto the work!
I sent this FN Hi-Power out to Richard Fletcher of
http://www.fletchercustompistols.com/ for a few enhancements. The front and rear backstraps were stippled. This is my first time holding a gun with stippling and I must say I am impressed with the grip it gives. I have a few 1911's one with 25LPI checkering and another with a serrated front strap and I think the stippling is just as good as the other two options.
I had Richard do a trigger job for me also. Some of the parts had already been swapped out like removal of magazine disconnect, hammer spring lowered to 28lbs, and a C&S ring hammer was in place. I had provided an EGW sear that had been fitted by a non BHP guru and it was obvious I guess as Richard said it was not servicable....live and learn. So Richard installed a C&S sear for me to complete out the trigger package. The pull is a bit on the heavy side I think, but it is very crisp and clean breaking.
Another problem for me were sights. I just couldn't handle the stock sights very well. My last 1911 had heine night sights installed and I was very impressed with them....so you can take one guess as to whats on there. Heine slant pro night sights. With one modification....I had Richard widen the notch to .140, something that is not done on any of my guns except this one.
I would have taken a picture of the next mod, except my skills are limited as stated before. The barrel was recrowned. When I bought the gun it had a ding on the very outer edge of the barrel...I have no idea if it actually affected the accuracy any but I wasn't taking a chance when Richard could clean it up easily and cheaply for me.
I also had Richard convert the ambi safety to a single sided safety. Something I could have performed but while it was there I had a professional do it. Less risk of me beating my head against the wall if I messed it up. haha.
The gun was dehorned for carry, a reliability treatment was performed, and the gun was blued. The frame and rounds are matte blue with the slide sides being a lovely polished blue. I really like the appearance of the gun!
Overall I am very pleased with the work. The gun feels great in the hand, sights are easy to find and the trigger breaks very nicely. I wish the pull was a little bit on the lighter side, but with some shooting it may improve. Richards price was very reasonable for all of the work, there was always great communication on his part and turn around time was excellent. I was able to send the gun in immediately after sending Richard an email on the work I wanted...and the total time I think was just a little bit over 4 months with a couple or so weeks going to the refinisher.
So in short I'd like to recommend Fletcher Customs to anyone looking to have BHP/FN HP work done. Richard also works on 1911's and S&W Revolvers. Never hurts to have another 'smith on the list!
Edit: Sheesh, the least I could do is get the website link correct. Fixed guys.
