I have a Yost 1* enhanced Colt that is a fine shooting 1911, but I really do not like the lack of grip the FS & MSH serrations offer over nice checkering.

Is it practical / possible to weld up the FS serrations that could then be checkered, or would the weld job not checker well?

Some of the new front strap treatments are cool to look at, but nice checkering is tough to beat for "gripability".
I know Cylinder and Slide has performed that mod on BHP's due to the thin front strap with good results...not sure on the 1911.
That's a good question for the pro's....I'd like to know myself.

Get on Evolution Gunworks site, they offer a weld-on checkered front strap that everyone raves about how good it is. I don't know about the weld-up and checker though, I am kind of curious myself.

Now, not an expert here, but aren't serrations=checkering - horizontal grooves? I wonder if serrating the FS in horizontal plane would effectively give you the checkered FS.

Since Yost Bonitz did the serrations, I'd call them up and explain what you want. I'm pretty sure they can convert the serrations to checkering without doing any welding.

Unless something has changed recently the Yost shop will not rework serration. (I asked about mine.) I also asked Mr Rogers about his golf ball treatment and he said that there was not enough metal to work with. Good luck and let us know if you find anything.

Thanks for the constructive comments from a couple of you... I can obviously call Yost & company tomorrow, just had the thought today and asked a simple question. My serrations are 20 lpi, if my intent was for 20 lpi checkering that was a little too obvious...
