Alex Nossar (http://www.nossargunleather.com) is in the process of making a holster for my C&S Adventurer. When I contacted him about making it he told me that he liked the idea of a severely chopped 1911 so much that he had made his own. I know that defacing an old army will upset some, but keep in mind that at the time that he did it (a little over ten years ago) there were not a dozed subcompact 1911s to choose from. These pictures were taken recently when he was preparing to refinish it. I think that it looks great and figured that you guys would enjoy seeing it as much as I did.

Thats a great gun. Where did the grip screws come from? They look awsome!

When Alex stayed with me for a week after SHOT a couple years ago, I thought I was really going to wow him and teach him a few things in my shop. I was the wowed one when I saw how much he really knew about working on these things.

There is much more to Alex than just being the Peruvian Vin Diesel  .

Interesting frame; it says U.S. property, and it has an inspector cartouche on the left side, but the "format" of the serial number is not that of a G.I. frame. The font is wrong, and it should be preceded by "No."

It is a fascinating gun on its own merits but, to pick up on RickB's point, I believe it started life as what collectors call a 1924 Transition Model and had a serial number between 700000 and 710000. The particular style of the inspector's stamp means that it was in the lower part of that range. An original 1924 pistol in about 98% condition sold in the last couple of weeks for over $6,500.

I think that bad boy is kool as all get out!!! A whole lot more thought and work went into that than a lot of the "Look at all the parts I ordered, assembled, and had finished." posts across the net that you see all the time.

Man, that fellow is multi-talented. He should be proud of that one. It's aesthetically pleasing. I'm quickly losing all my closely held prejudices I had when I joined this forum: 1911s had to be 5" blued guns.

It does make me shiver a little when I think of it being a GI gun, but I still like it.

Those Tri-Wing grip screws bring back bad memories of trying to get panels off of DC-10s though.

There doesn't seem to be any shortage of of old "US Property" 1911's south of the border. I sure hope to get a close look at this one some day.

Man...I just keep coming back to this one over and over. I don't know what it is about it other than it is beautiful AND it says US Property on it? I think it's about time we wake Alex up and get him to tell us more about this little beauty and maybe a little history on how it came to be! Also, who did the work on it (Alex himself?) and what was done to her......Man I really like this little lady!

I can add a few things. It was inspired by an article about the C&S Adventurer about ten years ago. An armed forces friend gave Alex the base gun. Alex did the work that included changing out the internals (other than the barrel) and put a sleeve on the barrel. Lastly, he was about to refinish it when he took these pictures. Maybe we can get some new after-finish pics.

I need to ask him where he got that stubby little beavertail, and what he did about the shortened recoil spring.....

Ned, I bet its a Kings beavertail for a Para P-10..also the recoil spring plug is a Briley--same as a Fantom..

That gun is screaming for an ISMI flat wire spring! I really like it!

Not too much to say about but all I know is that a huge shipment came from US to our Navy SF by mid 60´s they haven´t been used to much because obvious lack of 45 ammo around here, I know this because one of the guys in charge of creating the FOES units, "Peruvian SEALs" and test fire all new received guns in that time, happened to be one of my all time favorite gunny uncle. Which is not an historical fact about this "tools" as they call it but I could get the right info in a couple days.

Then 10 some year´s ago I received this particular gun as a gift from a good navy friend, thought I had too many...
So I thrash it out like this...

Alex.

I´m glad you´re enjoying this as much as I did by working on this project.

Yes, as NYCMedic has already explain i had changed all internal components, but i kept the original GI mainspring which i reduce in order to fit the new dimentions of the frame and allow a higher fit to the mainspring housing and seat the sear spring to free and funtion correctly, i had to reduce all three legs to work properly too. Same with the hammer strut to allow a correct relation with the hammer. Then i cut the slide and barrel with the same dimentions, I permanently added the cone sleve then cut the new crown and re fit the barrel direct to the slide, about the recoil spring system, well i never could get my hands on a aftermarket system but i tested a couple combination and i end up with an Officer´s double spring and cominolli buffer system, then i start all the custom touches, flaring and cut the ejection port, cut a high grip, fit and set a long ejector, fitting the low mount sights, dehorn all the gun etc..
Trigger is set at 4lb clean and crisp but solid even after this i know i would have to have some consideration with this gun, after all it was a single prototype. we are talking 96/ 97 when i start playing around with this project then i test fire it first time on 98, yes right on that time you couldn´t find those factory sub comps 45 so popular and ease to get on this days but the Adventurer´s from C&S in which i felt in love afther the 95 CH issue and of course the Detonics which never really fascinate me just because they didn´t kept the original 1911 lines IMHO.
Till today reliability is at 100%, precision has been mantained 4" to 4 1/2"at 25 that´s quite enough for this little GI coned barrel.
Btw. The only work i haven´t done myself was the lower frame welding ( Twice after i crushed it under my 39"x18" Suburban tires on the first trip to the range, it wasn´t my intention but... it happened  ) the new barrel crown whas cutted in a lathe and the aproximated mill cuts by .02 of ml.
All other cuts and fittings has been developed by small hand tools only.
Now I would like to change the trigger for a solid one in order to get a more classic look plus.. cut a french borders, also finish the blending of the mag well to the frame and a pair of custom VZ grips.
Well after all this i would apply a dark gray color teflon moly coat, well.. if I ever get a bottle of it.
"down here remember" .

Alex.

Alex..thank you for the extra information on this very neat little package!! As I said above, I just keep coming back to look at this again and again!
Nedster....better watch your six o'clock....I think Alex is trying to slide into your little corner of the market, too! For a project gun, this one sure came out great!

I, like Mr. Munsey, also keep coming back to this one. The lines are just "right". It is one of the most appealing compacts I've seen.

Alex, that's a hell of a job I do have to say. I wouldn't want to attempt it myself. Obviously you've been around one or two of these things. Best,
