Here's a pair of 5" Caspians that I put together. Greider short triggers, VZ grips, Wilson thumb safeties, and CMC grip safeties are common parts. The 9mm has a Nowlin barrel and Yost rear sight while the .45 got a Kart and a Heinie. XS standard dot front sights on both. Thanks for looking. Comments appreciated.

Those are really nicely done, I would like to someday have a custom Caspian done with their Recon frame. But then again, I would like a classic with a Damascus slide! If I just had more money!! :D

Very nice set and nice work!

Hi Drake,

Nice pair, really like the idea of the 9mm.....
I really like both. Have the 9mm 1911s any reliability issues ie. has the evolution of that caliber reached the level of the .45?

While I personally don't care for rails, those are nice looking pistols. The stippling looks good instead of the oh-so-common checkering, too. Nothing wrong with checkering, mind you, but I like the looks of a well done stippling job.

Very nice. Do they shoot as good as they look?

Nice work Drake! Im diggin' the stipling as well. It's nice to have that 9mm on the 1911 platform, to save a bit of money with the ammo. Not to mention they are just plain fun and easy to shoot!

fastarget,
Reliability has been 100% since I found the correct spring weight. 13# runs 115 ball and 124 +p Rangers. 14# runs the Rangers, but the 115 ball just falls out of the ejection port. The slide won't lock back with the 14#. The pistol is a joy to shoot. It tracks well and has almost no muzzle rise. It tears ragged holes at 21'.

Real nice Drake. Is there any particular reason why you set each one up different?

Gary,
I recently started a small business working on 1911's. I have been using parts from different manufacturers to find what I like. I have found that there are a lot of great people in the 1911 business that supply quality parts and advice. I have also been trying to define my style. You'll be seeing more stippling, Heinie and Yost sights, and flush cut barrels with EGW bushings. I like ball cuts on the slide and the Melonite finish. Thanks for the feedback.

Nice job!

Are you stamping your guns with a maker's mark?

Would it be possible to get a close-up of the stippling?

Ken,
I have a makers mark. I'm looking for someone locally to engrave it onto the slide of my builds. Here is a picture of a Springfield GI that I worked on. I'll take some pictures of the Melonited stippling also.Image
