I bought this pistol a while back from OCG and really liked the unusual crown treatment. Stupid question:
What do you call this type of crowning at the end of the barrel?
I want this on a Delta Elite when customized but don't know the technical term. Would the existing factory barrel yield this result or would I need a longer barrel?

Thank you.

That is a bushingless bull barrel with a recessed and polished barrel crown. The stock Delta Elite has a conventional barrel and bushing, so you would need to replace the barrel with a bull barrel and since there's no bushing to hold the spring plug in place, you need to install a reverse plug. The pistol in the picture has a reverse plug.

If what you like is the look of that recessed crown it can be done to a conventional barrel also and is seen quite frequently in the work of the smiths on this forum.

Robert, Bear in mind that the crown on this barrel looks a bit more dramatic due to the thicker wall at the muzzle owing to the bull barrel. Though it can (and is) done to standard bushing type barrels, it won't appear quite as large. It looks as though it's an 11 degree inverted, though many smiths vary the angle to suit themselves or customers wants. A Delta barrel in stock form will however give you a closer look to your pictured gun with it's slightly smaller bore. Best,

Robert, Take a look at John Harrison's website. He has several pics on there that show his crown done on standard barrels, it looks amazing. Im ready to send my pistol back to him to have it done.

Matt

Does it affect accuracy to take an "existing" gun and recess the crown?

I also like the fact that when the barrel is cut and recrowned it keeps all the blow back off the gun.
