Yup... you’re reading this right a long-slide.

Image

Ol’ Master Yost, like most of his contemporaries, has developed a style that he’s pretty well recognized for. Handcrafted and classically styled 5” Government Models are Ted’s forte and one that is often summed up with the term Signature Grade. For Ted it means something in not only how the gun is built but also the visual and stylistic accents that go into every gun with the Signature Grade moniker. So when the request came in for a Signature Grade long-slide you might say that Ted wrinkled an eyebrow or two at first. But by the time the gun was up to bat Ted had pretty well figured the ins and outs of how to make a long-slide, something he’s not really know for, into a Signature Grade.

All the usual Yost flair is present in this gun... just with a bit more length. Flawless hand-cut 30lpi checkering front and back, a buried Bo-Mar with gold line front sight, serrated rear of the slide, Bar-Sto bull-barrel, flattened and serrated slide top, mag-catch that has been beveled back and serrated, bordered slide, hand-made Cocobolo stocks, and so on.

Being a long-slide also allowed a couple of other neat details. First was the bull-barrel... Ted will be the first to tell you that they're not our first choice, but it sure fit on this gun. And cutting the barrel back and setting in a deep crown gives the gun an all business look up front. Second was the reverse plug... it’s long enough to allow the gun to use a “standard” recoil set-up and it was plenty thick for Ted to be able to checker it at 50lpi... to which I might add that Ted is really starting to get the hang of this 50lpi checkering thing, HA!! :P :P Lastly was the shooting... this gun flat out shoots! The barrel lock up is outstanding and the extra weight of the slide and bull-barrel keep the gun very flat during recoil, the gun shoots quite softly. However, I think the greatest advantage is the combination of the Bo-Mar rear, .125” wide front sight, and inch more of sight radius that allows for an ultra precise sight picture. This gun will shoot tiny little groups with no special loads needed and at the range were I to have had ‘tacks’ I could have driven them with this pistol. 8)

Enjoy the pics...

Ted,
Thank you for a job well done, it turned out better than I thought. It was worth the long wait and worth every penny. I found myself staring at the gun for hours on end, my wife thinks I am crazy

Jason,
Thank you for taking out the time to take the pics and testing the gun. I wish I can shoot like you, I am sure the gun shoots way better than me. It's time to play with the gun again....

Bryan,
Thank you.... We have to go shoot it soon, call me when you're free and we'll go to Jackson Arm.

Nice longslide. I like the two tone finish and nice grips. Nice and simple without all the fancy garbage you see on a lot of long slide guns.

When I saw the title of this post, I thought....really? But, frankly I'm grinning ear to ear! That is a really unique blaster. Very cool! I really like bull barrel's, so I'm glad to see one with a great looking snout like this one. Simply great work!

There's a Bullseye match somewhere waiting for this one.

Mauritz45,
The base gun was a Springfield Mil-Spec and top end is a Caspian long-slide. No consideration for leather work yet. Thanks for all the nice comment, Ted Yost deserve every single one of it. I am just the lucky guy who get to own it...

There's plenty to oogle there!

Am I the only one that finds such delight in grip screws that are perfectly aligned with one another? It seems like such a simple thing, but when I see a pistol with things attended to down to that level, it just makes me smile.

:D good guess Bryan, actually the 4t's is my full vietnamese name. I often asked my parents, why did you gave me such a long name... their answer was, it's tradition. But I think I like Toan Truong Two Tone better :D

Hey Alex, That is one fine looking gun. Good for you. One of these days I'll bring my 6" and we'll have to go shooting, or we can just use the barrels for pool cues....

Ted as usual, you are a master of functual art. Very nice work. Ok, after my Commander project then we'll have to work on a long slide set.... Geez, am I ever gonna get caught up?

I'm glad you're happy with the gun - I like these little departures from the everyday stuff, and this one came out very nicely 8)

BTW, Jason and I guessed the TTTT stood for Toan Truong - Tactical Terminator

Thanks Alex now you have me thinking about my own long slide. Alex you are a bad influence on me.;o) Loved the long slide so much I forgot about the GI50. I did not think a 45 round could look small.

Cheers
Bryan

Toan, when I did some work for you there were only two "T"s.

Moving up in the world, eh? And that gun shows it!

You're a funny guy, the four T's stand for my whole vietnamese name. Truong Thien Thanh Toan... in asian tradition the last name goes first, I don't know why I have two middle names, then the first name goes last. When I first came over to the US, all my teachers couldn't pronounce my name correctly, so my cousin named me Alex Truong. That's what I go by and that's what Bryan knows me by... I hope this clears out all the T's
