Can my XSE combat commander frame be cut down to the officer size?

It can be cut down, but you need to balance the cost vs buying a used officers model - about $800.00. I think you would spend more in cutting down your frame.

Is it worth it?

The biggest problem you have to resolve is the new location of the lower grip screw bushings. They typically wind up needing to be where the "windows" in the side of the frame are. To make it work, a filler plate on each side would have to be grafted in to fill the void and give solid steel to drill for the new GS bushing hole. It would take a lot of hand work to do this and leave no trace that it had been done.
