After having owned some really nice customized 1911's with all sorts of beavertails and other add-ons, I decided I really wanted a very simple 1911. I bought a Colt Series 70 from a recently retired sheriff's deputy about a year ago for a very good price. The deputy had carried the gun for over twenty-five years and the gun looked it. I don't have any pics of it after I bought it, but it wore old Pachmayr grips and was missing a LOT of bluing.

At first I wanted to send the gun to Yost-Bonitz for the 1* package, but I later decided to try sending it to Marianne Carniak. I sent the gun to Marianne and with a simple request. Leave the gun as basic as possible, but make it slightly more user friendly. Here's what I got back:

The gun came back better than I could have ever hoped. I apologize to Marianne as my crappy photography doesn't do her work justice.

Here's the list of work performed:

Tightened slide to frame fit
Trigger job (4.5 lbs) (Grieder Long Trigger)
Lower and flair ejection port
Installed and blended Mars Armament MSH
Installed Wilson Thumb Safety
Installed Nowlin Plunger Tube
Install Yost-Bonitz Retro rear sight
Installed and blended Heinie Front sight to slide
Installed fit EGW match bushing
Crowned barrel
Tune Ed Brown extractor
Throat and Polish feed ramp
Installed new grip bushings
Installed Wison Ejector
Beveled Magwell
Installed new springs
Light dehorn and reblue in matte finish

very nice. She does nice work from all the guns I have seen.Living in the Detroit area, I have seen a few. She is only a few minutes away, but I have never had the money to send something to her! If you get tired of that one, I am sure that you will have no problem getting rid of it!

This is the Ballester-Molina Marianne did for me. I have about $500 in it and I love shooting rings around much more expensive pistols. Marianne was trained by her father, Russ Carniak and she learned her lessons well. Regards, Richard :D
