I had my Les Baer Monolith Heavyweight worked over by the team of Bob Rodgers and Chuck Rogers. It came out better than I could have imagined.

Daddy likey!!

I absolutely love how "soft" Rogers pistols appear...but you know they are rock solid to the screws and springs. I think you picked a great team to achieve a common goal.

Is that a teflon coated gun?

Bob

Those huge expanses of flat surface just cry out for engraving.

Wow...

I have EGW working on a Monolith Heavyweight right now...if it turns out even half as gorgeous as that I'll be thrilled.

What is the finish?

Can't speak for Patrick but I wonder if he meant engraving something like, maybe, "Patrick Sweeney" on it :o ?

All the slabness does give it quite a different look. Would like to mess around with one of those.

Tested one for the first 1911 book. With all that weight forward, it would have made the best Stock Pin gun.

I was thinking of some tasteful scroll work.

Man ... that thing is super cool. Would the full-length dust cover configuration work with a heavy, bushing-less barrel and Briley supported reverse plug? If so, that would look really cool too.

On the second thought it may create too much forward weight bias ... unless the shooter offset it with about 25 extra pounds of butt-counterweight  Did I type that out loud?

The finish is Custom Satin by Glenrock Blue.

If I owned that pistol, I'd never get any sleep. I'd spend all my time admiring the damn thing!

Not yet. I do admire the craftsmanship and attention to detail that an engraver has, but I really like clean lines.

Heck, I don't even like roll marks.

I do like seeing Bob's work. I took a class with him. He is busy wearing out his tools...while mine get more and more rusty.

Congrats on a fine pistol. You can't beat the Rodgers and Rogers combination.

Chuck Rogers: "Hey guys!!! All I did was the sights! Bob Rodgers and Les Baer did everything else."

Hello, all. Regarding the above quote from Chuck Rogers about Bob Rodgers, for what it's worth, I'd like to share the following story:

Several months ago I e-mailed Chuck Rogers (knowing that he was, at the time, no longer accepting work). I asked if he had a "waiting list" for his waiting list. He replied that he would no longer be accepting custom work, but recommended that I check out Bob Rodgers. He said that Bob Rodgers "was very good".

That is one good-looking gun and a very serious understatement!

They are standard grips. That set was made by Jim Pixley at JPGrips.com

That's it, right there, they nailed it!! That pistol is simple and elegant. I rarely comment on the forums here, and all of the pistols built by the resident smiths on LTW are amazing, but that one just reaches out and grabs you by the heart. Damn fine pistol!

How do you like that flat trigger? Why do you like it? Is it a 10-8 trigger?

45 Fundi,
Yes, it's a 10-8 trigger. I think it's great. The best part about it is it doesn't seem to matter if your finger hits it a little high or a little low. It still feels right. I think I may be a little faster on the first shot out of a holster, because my finger is not "looking" for the center of the trigger.

I was wondering if that trigger caused your finger to slide up and down during recoil and recovery creating maybe an inconsistant trigger pull (or even maybe binding) if not centered?

I also wondered if it "felt like a short trigger", but was still actually long trigger length? (I can't use a long trigger) But I like the concept.

The gun is simply magnificent looking. I seriously am thinking of having a Monolith Commanche Heavyweight build for carry. Any Monolith advice would be very much appreciated if there are things me or my smith (LTW smith) should consider with a Monolith? You can PM me if you think of anything.
