Well, here is the first post of a pistol that I have had one of the Louder Than Words pistolsmiths work up for me. After doing a bunch of research, talking to a lot of folks, shooting some pistols and deciding to be relatively contrarian to the mainstream, I decided on a Kimber Series I Custom Classic Stainless as the base gun.
Now for the choice of smith...I was lucky enough to find my personal domicile within a 45-minute drive of one of the awesome craftsmen's shops found on this site. John has this uncanny ability to listen to all of my blatherings about how I want the finished product to do absolutely everything (eat any round it's fed every time, shoot sub 2 M.O.A. at 25 yards standing unsupported, do all of this while caked in mud, etc.) and produce a pistol that certainly exceeded my expectations. He will do anything you ask, but the true value I see is his ability to be a consultant capable of morphing broad requirements into exactly what his client intended.
Now for the mods:
- Replace existing Kimber adjustable sights with Heine SlantPro set
- Fit front sight with white dot
- Fit EGW Angle Bored barrel bushing
- Fit and checker EGW recoil spring plug
- Replace FLGR with Ed Brown GI recoil spring guide
- Re-crown barrel flush with barrel bushing
- Fit and install EGW match grade slide stop
- Countersink slide stop pin hole and recess pin
- Fit EGW oversize firing pin stop
- Fit and tune Wilson Bulletproof match grade extractor
- Fit Ed Brown ambidextrous thumb safety
- Fit existing S&A mag well and blend to factory beveled opening
- Fit and tune extended magazine catch
- Carry Bevel Package
- Function Reliability Package
- Refinish pistol in all-matte hard chrome
And now some pictures:
Hopefully y'all enjoy these pictures as much as I am enjoying shooting this blaster. I was lucky enough to get away from the rest of the requirements of life last Friday and put a box of 230 grain ball through it; John it shoots wonderfully!
The next one he get's is a Kimber Pro Carry (Lightweight Alloy Frame) that will have some similar characteristics to the "Little Widow". Based on John's work queue, the holidays and the "gun fund" we should look to that project being completed around the end of February '08...hopefully.
Regards
Robert
