Can a .45 be turned into a 10mm using current slide? Can an Officers become a .40?

Input from top smiths is welcome.

Can this be easily converted to 10mm? Thought I'd add this variation to the post!

I know that yours will work. I think that Mr. Yost did one and it is pictured somewhere in these forums. I think it would be easier to make the 9mm breech face fit than my .45. Take metal away..easy. Putting it back???

All things are possible, but the cost can be prohibitive. If you really want one, better to do it right, with a 10/40 slide.

"easily converted" is a relative statement. Easy for whom? Ted has built two that I know of using 9mm Commanders. Cost was approx. $5000.00,
Here are the links.

I think for five grand I'd rather start with a 10mm and have Ted make it into what I want, then trying to convert a 45 or 9mm along the way.

I am not a smith but just wanted to throw in my opinion. The links above show "full house" or "Signature" grade guns. The reason for the $5 grand price tags is because of all the other things that go into those guns not just because of the caliber. I bet if you wanted a caliber conversion with a similar set up but without all the bells and whisltes Ted could make it happen at a more... friendly price. With that said, I would agree that starting off with 40cal slide would be a better choice and might even be cheaper in the end depending on what you want done. You mentioned Colt officers guns and I have never seen one in anything other than 45acp but I am sure you can get 40cal slides in the 3 1/2" and 4"sizes. Please pardon me if I misunderstood you.
