I have a parkerized, Colt 1991A1 that I plan to have some modifications done to. First order of business, is the accuracy. The rear barrel lock up is not that great. You can oush it down. Would it be ok to have the lower lugs welded up, and then have the barrel refitted. I have heard Colt barrels are actually pretty good, so I would like to keep it. But if the cost is the same as having a new barrel fitted, forget it. Thanks, and looking forward to any input from the pros.

The 'weld ups' are pretty much from days gone by. This was done mostly before aftermarket match barrels were very available.

If it were my gun, I'd sure start with a match barrel to begin with. You'll end up with a tighter chamber and better rifling for about the same money as you'll spend having a stock barrel welded up and fit.

Thanks for the reply. That's pretty much what I was thinking. I am not looking at extensive mods for this gun. Basically new Novaks, thumb safety and new park job. Is tightening the slide to frame fit necessary? I am one that doesn't mind a little looser tolerance in the slide.

If it's not grossly loose or destined for bullseye competition, it should be fine without slide tightening.
