Well it is really more like Jason's display, but I still wanted to share pics. A while back, I asked Jason to build me what I feel is my ideal 1911. I've been shooting nothing but 1911's for the past 4 years, and that has given me a pretty good idea what I like and dislike on a 1911. I've found that I tend to favor a fairly simple 1911 without much flash. I want reliability over looks. I'm the only 1911 shooter in my training group, everyone else shoots Glocks, so you can imagine all the flack I get. My main goal was to have the best possible 1911 built, one that would hold up over the long term, and give me many 1000's of rounds trouble free.
Anyways, I sent Jason a older big Rollmark series 70 and let him go to work. Things I wanted were 30 lpi checkering, a Legacy Custom mainspring housing, single sided safety, polished flats, and a tritium dot in the front sight, along with grips that while looking good, would provide me good purchase on the gun - I left the actual selection of grips up to Jason. I also wanted a rear sight that I was able to use during one handed manipulations. Things I DID NOT want were serrations on the rear of the slide, and a flat top and serrations on the top of the slide.
Jason did everything that a full house gun gets, and also added a few things. He added borders for a bit of flair, and polished the frame instead of matte. He saw my last 1911 and how badly beat it was, and figured that the polished surface would hold up better to constant presentations from a holster.
This is the nicest 1911 I have, and I'm looking forward to training with it. It is going to kill me when I get the first scratch on it, but I bought it to shoot it, not display it. It will be on display at SHOT and hopefully will be used in a 3 day advanced handgun class later this month.
