About a year ago, I posted some pics of a prototype rear sight that I had dreamed up that would allow someone with a slide already cut for a BoMar BMCS rear sight to replace it with a fixed rear sight. I assumed that I'd have that puppy to market in short order, at least in 3-4 weels   . Well here it is a year later and I've finally got finished sights ready to sell! I'd like to take this opportunity to share some pictures and tell you about this product.

Design Concept

The Harrison Design HD-001 rear sight meets a unique need in the firearms marketplace, serving two main purposes.

First, it allows the owner of an existing pistol, equipped with a low mounted BoMar rear sight the option of replacing it with a hard-use fixed rear sight with features better suited to tactical and self defense use.

Second, the HD-001 affords the opportunity to install this sight as original equipment, creating sight cuts that could be used in the future to install an adjustable rear sight, should the owner want to re-equip the pistol for a different mission.

Features

Fully radiused design to eliminate sharp corners and edges encountered during deployment.

Forward blade design has a squared off shoulder to facilitate one handed operation for malfunction clearance.

Rear notch widened to .135” to allow more visible light into sight picture for faster acquisition.

Rear of blade serrated 50 lpi to eliminate glare and make the appearance uniform, regardless of the direction of ambient light.

The design allows a minimum of .030” windage adjustment in each direction, creating the ability to correct for roughly 3” of error at 20 yards.

Unique two-piece design allows the HD-001 to be mounted in both the “Deluxe” box cut and the “Standard” open cut.

The rugged hidden lug joining the dovetail base to the sight body makes this sight more than adequate for hard-use service.

It is good to see these sights available. Is this something that would work on the Bomar style sight cut that Springfield uses?

I got a good look at these at the show, and John did a superlative job of engineering here. For those of youse with a Bo-Mar cut who want a combat sight this thing is the answer.

Drake, the HD sight will fit the Springfields with the forward mounted rear sights, like a TRP. That one is a BoMar cut. The other adjustable rear sight that Springfield primarily uses is an LPA sight which is entirely different and the HD-001 will not fit it. I've been making fixed rear sights from bar stock for those applications as customers have asked for them.

John this sight is fantastic!

I recently had John install this on a 1970's Combat Commander that had previously been modified, including the low mounted BoMar . Well, the BoMar broke, and I (who don't really like adjustables) was lucky to find that John had this sight available. I also had a white dot front installed, and I think this is the most awesome sight picture of any of my pistols.

You all already know that John is a true gentleman and does fantastic work. Well, he now also has a winner of a rear sight!

I love it. A solid replacement for bomars, and enough metal there to customize as a smith might need for a one handed snag and milling another sight radius. Perfect--I might have to throw one of these on my TRP Op.
Cheers to a winner, John.

I think I recognize that rear sight John

It turned out really nicely. The sight picture is clean and crisp

and with the added bonus of swaping out drop-in sights it's definitely a winner.

I like it. Next time a Bo-Mar goes bad on me I'll get one of these.

In some cases, yes. Like with any change in sights, you may have to make corrections. I have found that most pistols with normal lock up work with a front sight height of approximately .200".

Functional and good looking.
Are they suitable for tritium installation, or is a night sight your next version?
8-Ball or three dot?
Thanks

The sight is configured to allow any of the popular tritium lamp configurations to be installed. I can supply them on a custom ordered basis, although at some point I will do a run.

John ... although you replaced the LPA on my Springfield a couple years ago with a Bo-Mar, the best I remember the Bo-Mar we used is a special model designed for retrofitting LPA cuts. So if I'm right the new HD-001 would not fit my Harrison-tuned, Bo-Mar equipped Springfield.

Are my assumptions correct?
