I picked up this LWC in 9mm several years back. It was sporting a beat up original blued finish with some pitting, ambi safety and some bad sights.

The first thing I did was add some XS tritium big dots and then I moved on to the modification list and try to figure out what I wanted do to make it my own.

After lots of thinking and picture reviewing I decided on what I wanted to do and contacted John Harrison about the build. I told Mr Harrison that I wanted to go with a basic restoration type build with some add ons.

Mr. Harrison was great to work with, answered all of my questions and did and outstanding job on this beat up old LWC, it is all I hoped it would be!

List of work done -
Fit match grade barrel bushing
9mm Kings barrel bushing
Function Reliability Package
Wilson XP firing pin spring
Perform Basic trigger job
EGW RHH EGW hammer
Fit oversize match trigger
King's short, solid black trigger
Serrate front strap 20 lpi in square pattern, includes truing & high
gripping
Serrate smooth main spring housing to match front strap
V-Z smooth flat aluminum MSH
Carry Bevel Package
EGW Plunger tube
Refinish frame & MSH in black anodizing
Refinish pistol in Standard Blue (600 grit)

Nice no frills sleeper. I'd love to own a pistol like that. Congrats.

Nice pistol. I had a chance to briefly look at this pistol when John test fired it at the range. This 9mm light weight commander is just the perfect size for a carry gun.

That is a sweet, low-key Commander. It makes me want to go get mine (which is less than 70 units away from the serial number on yours) and fiddle with it.

Nice commander, I knew I was on his waiting list for a reason. I do think that the new grips bring it all together, the old ones remind me of a coffee table my father used to have.

A new pic of the LWC. I had it refinished at IonBond, went with the polished flats, the rest done in matte...the finish looks like a great bluing job!

I'd wondered how well IonBond would take to a LWC frame-- and I'm really surprised by the results on the matte and polish contrast.
All the fine lines John brought out in the piece stand out in stark contrast with the new finish, and it's breathtaking when it hits you.
Nice gun brother, like the ivory shoes for the little princess.

That looks great! How does one go about IonBond. I don't see anything about firearms on their website. What was the $$$/turnaround time, If you don't mind me asking?

Ryan Flynn is the POC @ IonBond in North Carolina, his number is 336-665-0005.

I don't want to give out bad information regarding prices or completion times, so he would be the best source to go to for specifics. My wait was around 3 months due to it being an aluminum frame.

Hope this helps,
Rob

Rob,

Thank you for sharing that beauty. I agree that the ivory grips are the way to go.
