This Commander was built for one of the very early, if not original instructors at API. He was a member of the US border Patrol and later an Atlanta area Deputy Sheriff. When plans were made for a Gunsite reunion last September (which was later postponed), he contacted me to build a special pistol to carry with him. The base pistol was a well-used Series '80 LW Commander. The finished Commander features the following:

Tightened slide to frame fit
Fitted Kart match barrel & bushing
Heinie original rear sight -w- gold bead front
Ball cuts & French borders
Carry bevel package
Serrations on slide's heel
Lowered & fluted ejection port
Yost ignition parts
CMC beavertail
Ed Brown extended safety, medium contour
30 lpi checkering on frant strap & MSH
Lanyard attachment mod in MSH
Beveled mag well
French walnut grips -w- registered screws
Hard chromed lower -w- blued top

That's 'goodness' right there. Nicely done, John.

That is a lovely Commander that is just begging for some carry time. Very nice.

That's a sweet pistol, that 2-tone look is catchy.

That LWC looks A-OK for an API BBQ.

Nice classic carry set up. Sure like the blend around the lanyard loop MSH.

This belongs to a close friend and I had a chance examine it in person last week. John, the photos don't do the pistol justice. The execution and attention to detail are top notch. I can tell you that this will not be a safe queen. What makes it tough is that John lives less than two hours from me!

Well done my friend.

I keep coming back to look at this two tone classic LW Commander. This piece in a Sparks Summer Special would fit in real well at any API reunion.

John,

This is an absolutely gorgeous LW. I like the simplicity of it, and I really like the way the frills scream, "No Frills!"

Very well executed.
