Patrick Kelly has an article in (USPSA's) Front Sight Magazine showing off the Springfield Custom Shop's new multi-caliber gun. 9, 40, and 45...all on the same slide.

Patrick Kelly's webiste has a few more pics, under "sample works" (page 3). http://www.multigunmedia.com/

I just read this article in front sight. The gun seems almost to good to be true. Kudos to the Springfield Custom Shop for coming up with this unique design. I'm sure many shooters will be waiting for the updates on high round counts through this gun.

I don't care for the front sight, but it's hard to complain about much else. It will be very interesting to see what shot placement
is like between the different barrels. I'm guessing there was a bit of effort required to get the three barrels all pointing close
enough to the same direction.

Price be damned, that's one interesting piece of hardware! I might just "need" one.

I've got a strange fascination for alternate 1911 chamberings. I thought I was alone in this illness until I read Sweeney's book.
So, would it be too much to ask for a "real" 10mm barrel, one in .38 Super? Once the boring bores are out of the way we can
get to the interesting stuff, like .357 SIG, .38 Special, or maybe 30 Luger. Then we can move on the the fun stuff, like 50 cal.
With all that out of the way, on to the more exotic flavors. :)

I know, I'm a sick puppy.

Hmm, I wonder if it has some type of interchangeable breech face like SV uses on their multi-caliber guns?

I'm probably not qualified to give answers, but I can regurgitate what I've read...

It's not an interchangeable breech face like the SV. This one has a solid breech face for 70%+ of the breech face. The right side has a changeable insert that is a "cartridge positioner".

A lot of folks seem to like those fiber optics (I'm not a fan).

I did stand in the pouring rain at PASA Park and watch Robbie win the 2001 Nationals with one. Last stage...fading light...raining cats and dogs... Robbie, Jarrett and Barnhart were all within about 5 points of each other with one stage to go. Robbie nails the big field course and wins the match. Jarrett would later say that he wished he had a fiber optic, as he had trouble seeing his front sight in those conditions.

Some will wear the fiber optic on the gun and sight black it out if not needed.

I'm sure their Custom Shop would put in what the shooter wanted.

I don't know about the regulation, but the groups reported were good. Rested at 25y 8 shot groups at less than 2in in the 40, and closer to an inch in the 9...all with factory Blazer ammo.

Patrick Kelly, reports that he was told by Springfield's Dave Williams (it's Dave's personal gun) to ride it hard and report back the results. PK had a day to sight it in, then shoot the Washington State Steel match (in 9mm). He then swapped it to 40 for shot the Oregon single Stack match with it. he reports that it ran perfectly.

This particular gun...with extras (check out the checkering)...is probably a $4k gun with full-house attention from Springfield's Custom Shop.

Less features, all three calibers, from the custom shop...price mentioned was $2700.

It being a Custom shop gun, if there is a Cali approved Springer...couldn't you see about buying that as a base gun, then sending it in for the work? I thought that I had heard of that being a Cali work-around?

I guess you could start with any springer, but then you would lose the match frame slide. I guess you could start with a pro.

Bryan

PS spoke with Deb she said start with a GI for us CAlif folks.

I do believe I recognize the grips too....could those possibly be Lazza grips from Mr. Larry Davidson?

I like the idea of a multi-calibre 1911....

I thnk I actually held this gun at SSC but didn't even realize it was multi caliber. It was a very nice gun tho and I think I like the diagonal checkering. I liked the sights.

Was in the gym the other day and was looking at the knurling on the straight bar wondering "why not put this on a pistol." Looks like they beat me to the punch.
