I received the "call" and happily picked up my first custom BHP, worked on by Jim Garthwaite. Before I type the specs, I want to make sure that I can actually post an image, and that it is sized correctly. So here goes . .

Edited: image posted correctly 2 posts down. :)

Well, the gun looks great, IMO, but I thought that the picture would be posted full-sized. Hhhmmmmm. Any suggestions?

rear-of-slide shot.

I've only been able to put 200 rounds of FMJ through it so far, but it shoots like a dream. A quick run down of some of the mods:

-Flatten and serrate slide top
-Heinie slant pro rear sight, recontoured
-Heinie front sight w/ 18k gold bead inlay
-Checker rear of slide
-Trim factory hammer
-Garthwaite custom thumb safety
-C&S wide trigger, recontoured
-Stipple front and rear of frame, underside of trigger guard
-Checker magazine catch
-Hand Bevel magazine well
-Boarder serial # on frontstrap
-Hand-fit frame and slide
-Remove magazine disconnect and Carry Trigger Job (Crisp 5 lbs.)
-Black Teflon finish
-Fit Spegel Black Delrin grips

And the list goes on. Jim is a great guy to work with. As soon as I find another slightly used BHP that is calling my name, I'll be calling his number.

Thanks Cam. I am a fan of black/black carry guns. I do intend to carry this pistol, just as soon as I spend plenty of time at the range with it. And then there is the wait for the holster.

Excellent looking HP there, I do love Heinie sights on the HP's.

Here are a few more shots from the initial photo shoot:

Any oils/lint/etc. is all my doing. I don't have a very good digital camera, but my brother-in-law does. He was kind enough to snap a few pictures for me on his way out the door. I think that my composition/lighting/backdrop have a lot to be desired  , but not the pistol. Again, Kudos to Mr. Garthwaite.

Nice gun. I really like the feel of the trigger after Jim straightens it out. It seems like a small detail, but it is a big improvement in my opinion. The gold bead front sight is also my favorite.

Jim Garthwaite is an old master who has been building custom pistols since 1978. He does everything by himself, as well as bluing and gunkote.

As the owner of 7-8 of his pieces (including a few "full" house guns), I can assure you that his work is second to none, especially when you factor in price and turnaround time.

In addition to his technical skills, Jim has a lot of practical firearms training and is a long time member of the NTI whic certainly enhances his understanding of how these things are really used.

Thanks for the kind words.

The gun really is phenomenal. I don't think that the pictures quite do it justice. But, they are just pictures. Jim makes a great looking HP, but the real beauty is in the function. I hope to post some follow-up pictures after I get to spend some prolonged time carrying and putting rounds down range.

I know this is an old thread, but Jim does great work. I've had him do three guns for me so far, a BHP and a Colt LW Commanders in both .45 and .38 Super, I need to send him something else, great work and a helluva nice guy to boot!
