I offered to donate a couple builds for the Indiana State Match this weekend. I've just finished my contribution and will be attending the match as a shooter Friday, and I'll be smithing and helping out until the awards on Sunday when I get to hand one of these to it's owner. The other is going to be raffled off for one lucky winner and the proceeds are going to the Jr's Shooting Program getting youngsters involved in shooting and shooting sports.

Caspian Arms, Nowlin, STI, Schumann, Dawson Precision, and many others donated parts and I donated my time and efforts to put these guns together. Fiber optic front sights, adjustable rears, full lenght guide rods (the STI has one of those Dawson Precision with an internal lever that is just fantastic), 4# action jobs (I'll lighten them up at the request of the new owners), flat topped and serrated, rear serrations, and many more options. The finish was done in Melonite by Drake's Gun Works. I figured a nice satin color with high resistance to scratching was the way to go. It was a real pain refitting the frames and slides, but that's part of gunsmithing.

I'm hoping to have some better pictures sometime soon. In the meantime, enjoy the teasers and have a great day.

ETA: I was supplied with some grips made from Skateboard Tape for the Caspian Frame, but opted not to apply it as the future owner may want to put something else on it. Rather than have to peel it off later, I opted to leave them and let the owner decide.

(BTW, when you talk to him, let him know that he wants the trigger at 3#, the grip tape on, and would like the grip safety pinned, deactivated, or near-completely desensitized. That way he won't bring it to me in 3 months asking me to get in there and mess up your great work.)

We were able to raise almost $2000 for the raffle on the 2011 kit. Out of less than 300 people that attended the match, I thought ticket sales were pretty good. That makes a little less than $1000 for the Juniors Program. Thank you to everybody that bought a raffle ticket. Next year I should be back at the match to shoot, but more importantly, I should be building another pistol for the Juniors again. I may even do another in the same fashion for the way the Caspian was won. We are thinking about an Open Gun for the raffle next time.

Unfortunatly, I can't pin or deactivate the grip safety for him. I have a shop policy to not remove or disable a safety mechanism for any reason. I understand the concept and idea, but it is a liablility of sorts. I can make it sensitive, but it has to work when it leaves my shop.

I was shooting a stage at the match and in the video, you can see me take aim and pull the trigger but nothing happens - my grip wasn't proper and I had to adjust my grip, so I understand where you are coming from.

His pistol will be ready for transfer in a couple weeks. I'll adjust the trigger pull and install the "Grips" (grip tape) that was supplied with the parts.

Take care and it was great meeting all you shooters in Indiana. I had a blast and for my first match, I didn't come in last, so that had me stoked. I had so many screw ups and I was shooting a single stack in the Open class so I was getting killed with mag changes. Anyhow, take care and thanks again to everybody that contributed to the Juniors Program and everybody that treated me so nice at the match...what a bunch of high class people!

Bob

I'll see if I can get my hands on the video of him being told he won.

He had just stepped to the line and received the "Make Ready" range command when Jake showed up and called out his name. After his run we got the video camera running and he was told his score sheets were all screwed up...before he was told the real deal.

He is pretty deserving (but don't tell him I said that  ).

Bob was awesome to work with getting these together, I gave him about two weeks to get 2 pistols done, no pressure!!!
Not all parts had shown up 1 week out, but Bob keep it going.
I had the chance to shoot the STI some, ran about 100 rounds thru it and while it was tight, the gun was flawless, it made me a better shooter!!!!

I am looking forward to working with Bob in the future, and hopefully getting him to build me a really slick limited gun!!!

Bob thanks for all of your efforts and time that you donated to this project, you are a true professional, I just hope I can get in before you have a 5 year waiting list!!!!!!!!!!!!
