Anyone build a full house/signature Hi Power on a 40S&W gun, but rebarreling to 9mm? Is it just a matter of a new barrel and magazine? Any pics? I am debating whether losing that lighter, sexier feel of the 9 to gain a 'tank like' 9mm which will stand up to +P all day would be worth the compromise. Any warts on the idea, other than a heavier slide? Any pics?

Best regards and thank you.

I've put a couple of barrels in to do this, but they weren't on a full house type gun. I don't know if you'll really gain anything here other than a heavier top end. The metallurgy on the MK III's slides is the same as far as I know, and Patrick Sweeny has put somewhere around 30,000 rounds by now through his MK III without any appreciable wear and I don't think he confined all the shooting to standard pressure rounds. The MK III's are a much tougher Hi-Power than the earlier guns. Best,

My Mk III has seen 23,000+ rounds, but less than a thousand have been +P or +P+. Bill Laughridge still thinks the P-35 is not at all suited to +P or +P+ ammo.

Given that I have gotten lots of mileage out of standard-pressure ammo, and the performance of modern hollowpoints in 9mm is so good, I would not hesitate to pack mine with standard-pressure 125 JHPs.

I also wouldn't hesitate to subject one to a small amount of +P ammo for carry.

The only way to find out if the 40 converted to 9mm is for you, is to shoot one. Hmmm, another article?

Thanks for the replies. Patrick, if you need help putting a bunch of rounds through such such a gun for an article, I would be more than glad to be able to see if I like the feel

I may have a line on a 9mm Practical, so I may pass on the 40 and may let that idea go out the window.
