Okay Guys,

This one is for Jason and Ned. Dave Williams and the guys at the Custom Shop built this one to my specs for a Harris Article. The concept was for a deep concealment 1911.

Here is the build sheet:

Alloy Officers Model frame
Champion Slide
Carry Bevel
Single side safety
High cut the front strap
20 LPI checkering on the front strap and MSH
Flatten side stop pin
Ball cut the front of the slide
Round the base of the MSH
Bevel the mag well
Heinie Tritium Straight Eight Sights
Matt Black Armory Coat
Solid Trigger

Dave added the thin stocks that have had the edged and checkering softened.

When Dave called me and said it was about ready, he described it as having a "bar of soap" bevel and the matt finish gave it a real "stealth look." I think that about describes it. I'll be getting an article out on it PDQ. It shoots like a house of fire with quarter sized holes at 10 yards being the norm.

Let me know what you think.

Regards,

Rob

Image

Notice the rounded edges of the slide stop, magazine release and the stocks.
Image

While some may not like 20 LPI, it is perfect for an compact alloy .45. I do like a solid trigger!
Image

Even the edges of the hammer have been beveled. Fit and finish of all the parts was excellent, especially the beavertail.
Image

John and Jason have me hooked on ball cuts. I think that look even better on this one with the bevel added. Kind of a unique look.
Image

The flat profile of the Heinie read presents a very clean sight picture. Notice how soft the beveled edges are.
Image

While not a fully round profile, the base of the MSH was rounded to remove the offended edge.

Rob...that is one fantastic little piece!!!!! How does it compare in size to other deep concealment pieces, say a Walther PPK or similar? Maybe you could post a couple of side by side photos with similar sized weapons please?? I think that this little piece with some sort of "guttersnipe" sight system ala Devel or ASP would be just the ticket for anything one might run into when you shouldn't/cannot be carriying a gun!! Overall..I LOVE it!!--John

I like how the slide release pin is flat on the end. It really blends into frame. The bevel job has been taken as far as it could be while still remaining tastefull. Nice carry gun.

Looks outstanding. How well does it run, especially with hollowpoints?

Rob,

Looks great! Reminds me of the Clark "melt down" bevel of some years ago.

Any reason that the SA Custom Shop didn't do a cut-out at the bottom of the front strap to facilitate a stuck magazine extraction, since the magazine lip is flush?

Regards,
John

Pezzulli,

I didn't request front strap to be relieved for the magazine. It was/is very tight so the first 50 rounds or so I had a couple of minor reliability issues. Other than that, it shoots great.

More to come later.

Thanks for the comments.

Rob

very nice piece.

I believe this would be the perfect carry and currently searching for a Colt CCO.

Is this a ramped barrel?

The only thing I would change is the color of the trigger and barrel hood...BLACK!!!!

Ned,

I was brought up not to "kiss & tell." However, it sounds like you have some experience with this issue!

I hope to buy this one when the invoice comes due. Thanks for all the comments. I can't say enough about Dave Williams and his crew at Springfield. They do some amazing work that is rarely notices.

It looks like a black bar of soap with some checkering and a barrel in it.

Beautiful piece.

Usually, whe I see people doing what I would consider an extreme dehorning, they aren't mindful of the lines - they just plow into it. This was very tastefully done. Though I'm not fond of the extreme dehorning, I can surely appreciate it.

Take care and have fun with that blaster.

Bob

Very Nice Job! Not a sharp edge on the whole thing. Should be a very comfy carry. R.K.

A couple of better photos of the CCC. Headed back to the range so more photos to come. The more you carry this pistol, the more you come to appreciate all of the individual features and modifications. The Al Mar SERE is one great folder!

Remington's Golden Saber 185 is the perfect load for this little gun.

Rob, was the standard ramped SA champion barrel used or a match barrel?

thanks in advance

Back from the range. 1.5" at 7 yards was no problem at all. It was a hand full with Remington's 185 +P Golden Saber. 230 Sabers, Gold Dots and Rangers shoot well. It does tend to shoot about an inch low at seven yards. That will get adjusted after the article is completed. It was 100% reliable with everything we fed it.

The gun just continues to grow on you. The trigger measured 3 lbs 8 oz. and goes in a hurry. The Heinie Straight Eights are very quick to pick up on and offer a clean rear sight picture.

Enjoy,

Rob

It really doesn't flip this bad normally. We were shooting groups and tended not to hold it as tight because we were doing a fast follow-up.

The barrel is the standard fully ramped barrel that SA uses on all their alloy frame autos.

Looks great, reminds me of a 'soft' Clark Meltdown. Very well finished pistol SA did.

Why a ramped barrel in .45acp? Does it help longevity in the aluminum frame or feeding?
Thought ramps were more for the smaller calibers? *Dont flame me, Im not a smith* :?

Outstanding build!

Not taken as a flame. SA does a ramped barrel on all of their alloy frames for both reliability and wear.

Whatever the reason, they work.

Two more pics to give you an idea about the size of this little guy. Range time yesterday was a ball, especially with some light 185 gr. target loads. Almost like wadcutters out of a k-frame.

Rob, someone messed up and did not a put Novak rear on your CCO like your Pro.

I will gladly take that mistake off your hands.

With a thorn in my side, everytime I shoot it, I will have to look through the error rear sight!

Very nice piece!

Wow. I'm going to accelerate my plans to have my CCO dyed black.

They did a great job at rounding the Springfield signature too-squared dust cover bottom.

As much as I hate the Heinie rear sight, I am making myself get used to it.

My ammo locker can't take too many more range trips with this one.

I forget to mention that Dave installed a Kart national match barrel in the little hot rod. There is no telling what kind of groups this would shoot from 25 yards in the right hands.
