I love the classic styled pistols that many of the smiths on this site produce. When my grandfather died recently, I felt compelled to have my own memorial built in his honor.... something special to me that would always remind me of him. After a few conversations with Virgil Tripp, I commisioned the pistol and began driving the poor man crazy. My intentions were to build a gun that looked a lot like the custom single stacks I see regularly on this site, but also be USPSA/ IDPA competitive.

Here's the results...

Seth,

What a wonderful memorial to your Grandfather. That is a great looking gun and I hope you enjoy many years of great competition with it......in your Grandfathers honor.

Just a quick update. I received the pistol from Virgil on Thursday, Oct 2. Since then I've run just over 1000 rounds through it. 1 USPSA match (bull barrel and EGW magwell), 1 IDPA match (bushing barrel and krebs magwell), 2 IDPA- lite matches and about 500 rounds of practice. The ONLY ammo through the gun is my Montana Gold 180 gr. CMJ handload with mixed headstamp range brass.

Two weeks, 1000 rounds, 1 cleaning, several extra drops of oil on the rails, lugs and barrel with nary a single hiccup of any sort. Completely flawless. Frame to slide fit is still extraordinary and there's not a lick of perceptible lateral or vertical movement in battery or at slidelock.

Virgil and his team built an outstanding handgun. The more I shoot it, the happier it makes me.
